Always had a good experience (Amex UK). These are the people you want your credit card with,to protect you from when businesses want to bully you around / when they break the law. My ex-partner got a trip cancelled by a travel agent virtually bankrupt during the CV19 pandemic. Despite cancellation coming directly from the travel agent, the business only wanted to offer a voucher (not much of use once they go out of business), owner of the travel agent kept refusing / ignoring complaints (they had plenty of one star reviews on trust pilot) and was extremely slow on replies. Amex got involved and we got all money back. What else can you ask for? Keep doing what you do.

It all started when the current CEO took over. Within a year the customer first approach that made Amex a household name was completely abandoned and many US offices were shuttered in 2016 & 2017.Countless experienced workers were laid off and entire departments were outsourced to inexperienced, underpaid and overworked international call centers. Management did not organize these call centers or take steps to adequately support their new employees and it became a dumpster fire. I had fraud in April and August of LAST year, and the matter has not even been investigated yet. I have spent over 1000 hours on the phone with their hold music and I still doubt I will get my issue fixed without a lawsuit. The prepaid department got it the worst, and it went from being the best in fintech to the worst in the matter of a year. If it weren't for my unresolved disputes I would have left long ago. Incomm bought the prepaid department at some point and continued running it into the ground with a vengeance. The pandemic has only made things worse. Most disputes are not even investigated, and faxes and letters go ignored and you need to go to law school basically to even figure out who is in charge there now. Amex Prepaid, the subsidiary of Travel Related Services contracts out for Incomm, so it's subsidiary is actually a subsidiary of another company but somehow amex works for that company (Incomm/vanilla)? It makes no sense. On purpose, because thousands of customers have been turning to consumer protection lawyers to adjudicate claims of fiduciary malfeasance and the brand is effectively deceased. Sell your shares before word gets out. They are worth less than the paper they're printed on. Amex is over.

I wish I can give no star if I can can. I have been trying to reach their customer service regarding my reward program for last 5 days and never been successful.I have been held on the line for more than 40mins each time but never been able to be connected. They keep saying that next available executive will serve you but I don't believe that there is one. Even local companies like Luxury escape etc will ask you if you want to leave the number to callback so we don't have to wait in the line. However global company like AE don't even have this service and doesn't live up their brand value in terms of their services. Very disappointed!

It was once a symbol of trust and good service. The quality of the support has gone downhill.I was their customer for many years. Cancelled the card recently after having the most horrible experience with them. I was ordering something online and the card declined. I logged into my account and started a chat to find out the issue. They said the charge had fone through. I explained that the purchase did not and the answer was "if you dont receive the product, contact the seller. There is nothing we can do". I told them again that it was probably a scam and the answer again was that they can't do nothing about it. I have to try and get the seller to send the product or cancel the charge. Careful with amex. They will not protect you against scammers. That's what happens when a company is going down.

Worst financial institution to use. I've had this credit card at ZERO balance for 2 years but they closed my account.I found out my credit card was a closed when I got notification from credit karma. Not only did I never received a notification by phone or mail but I didn't even owe anything. Found out they closed my account because my credit score lowered. My credit score lowered because I purchased a car and I took a loan out for it. I have all my accounts in good standing but they don't care. Apperantly American Express doesn't know how to communicate with their customers either. Save yourself the headache and don't get their service!!!
