Blue Apron's estimated revenue for 2023 is $300M.

What does Blue Apron do?

Blue Apron was founded in 2012 premised on a simple desire—our founders wanted to cook at home with their families, but they found grocery shopping and menu planning burdensome, time-consuming, and expensive. Our founders hand-packed the first Blue Apron boxes themselves, delivered them to family and friends, and received immediate positive feedback. Since those initial deliveries, we have scaled rapidly, developing our expertise and an ever-more ambitious vision. We are reimagining the way that food is produced, distributed, and consumed, and as a result, building a better food system that benefits consumers, food producers, and the planet. The nature of our business carries with it unique and exciting challenges, and our employees working across our fives offices, take on these complexities to ensure each customer receives the highest quality product every week. Our core product is the cooking experience we help our customers create. Central to these experiences are the original recipes we design and send along with fresh, seasonal ingredients directly to our customers. We also sell wine, which can be paired with our meals, and kitchen tools and staples we use in our test kitchens where we create new recipes. Our customers often cook with us multiple times each week, and they trust us to craft delicious recipes to feed their families and loved ones. We're thrilled to be welcomed into our customers' homes and part of their weekly cooking routine!

First time ordering

Reviewed on 2021-04-13T17:02:59

First time ordering. Site operations are deceptive. The subtotal shown to you will not reflect upgrades/premiums. The subtotal showed $59.94 minus $20 off promo, totaling $39.94. However, 3 days later $79.94 was the subtotal, and with $20off, $59.94 was deducted from my account. I called and asked why this was not shown correctly on the site as my subtotal when asking for my card info. After going around and around with rep Christina, I canceled my account for a full refund. It's not the pricing, it's the deceptive bait and switch tactics I can't patron.

Shady Business Practices!

Reviewed on 2021-04-02T15:40:52

I want to share my experience with anyone who might read this. I have used Blue Apron for meal deliveries a few times over the past several years.I honestly don't remember how long ago it's been since I had active deliveries set up with them. Recently, I re-downloaded the Blue Apron app to my phone, and logged in to the app, to research whether or not Blue Apron offers any Keto friendly meal kits. When the app first opened I recall a pop up stating that my payment information on my account was expired, requesting that I update my payment information. I closed the box, and did not enter updated payment information, as I had no intention of actually signing back up at that time, I was simply doing research. The next thing I know, I am receiving text notifications from UPS that a delivery is being made to me. I then checked my bank account, and sure enough had a charge on my account from Blue Apron dated March 29th. . I have been extremely busy, and had this issue on my 'to do' list. Today, I logged back into my bank account and had yet another charge from Blue Apron, which told me 'I guess you best not waste anymore time dealing with this'. I logged in online, and chatted with a representative who very plainly told me that when you log back into your account, via app or online, it automatically reactivates your account. This is bad business, I don't need to hear any further explanation. Plain and simply, shady, dishonest by omission, business practice. The rep then continued on in telling me that after you deactivate your account, you receive an email, and in the 'fine print' of that email, it is explained that if you log back in to your account, it will automatically reactivate your account. Please see the attached screenshot of my chat with the rep for proof of some of this information. Unfortunately, I failed to screenshot the particular message where she stated that an email is sent at time of deactivation, stating that the fine print specifies that logging back into the account equates reactivation. She actually used the words 'fine print'. When I spoke to the representative over the telephone, I mentioned that I was unsure how they processed a payment to begin with, considering that the credit card information on my Blue Apron account expired almost a year ago. He explained they will always 'try' to process the charge, even if the card is expired, and it's up to my bank as to whether or not they let the charge go through! I use meal delivery services during the fall of each year, because I am overwhelmed with work during that time of year, but I not be using Blue Apron again. After my online chat, I did make a phone call as well, and after much argument, and justification of their business practices, I did receive a full refund.

Our family is first time users of your service, and my daughter had singed up for your "signature for 4" plan. She received a confirmation for this plan, and received our order yesterday to find only the plan she apparently selected is for only two people. I called your customer service department, and was informed that she had selected the plan for two, even though we signed up for the signature for 4 plan. Your site to order is confusing at best, which I expressed to the CS member, he apologized and offered several times, that if we needed meal selection help to contact your team to get the help. My expectation, was that the CS team member would make it right and offer up the extra two meals, since I had expressed how confusing the site was, as a first time user, I did not suggest or argue the point, but felt ,what to do in this situation would be something not needing the explanation. Both my wife and myself immediately decided, about if we were going to continue on with your service, and hopefully that does not need an explanation as well. Thank you.

If I could give them a 0 I would

If I could give them a 0 I would. Blue Apron is supposed to be a home delivery service right???Well after a month of calls and emails my food box was still being stuffed in a mail box. I have a disability and I can’t carry the box 2 flights of stairs. Yes they did give me credit after credit BUT that’s not what I wanted!!!!’ I wanted my home delivery service to be left at my door. Nothing was ever done and Paul the manager gave me the option of canceling or having it delivered to another address!!! Really!! I know absolutely nothing will be done but I had to share my frustration somehow. Blue Apron does NOT CARE about those with DISABILITIES!!!’ Shame on you!!!

I would have to say I’m surprised we just got another deliver which was missing one of the Knick knack bags for a recipe. The first time I didn’t discover for a week(when we were ready to prepare the meal). Today we received 2 meals delivered and only 1 had the Knick knack. I figured we’d call Blue Apron for them to rush the Knick knack bag to us. Instead they said they’d credit our account, they don’t send out Knick knack bags separately. How can you be in this type of business and not accommodate this simple request which has likely non-perishables contained in the bag. Now our recipe will likely not taste good as one ingredient isn’t one I would buy and only needs 2 TBSP for it, but is the sauce for the chicken. Not what we expected to hear. They gave us a credit...but we have a meal that we paid for that will be missing a key ingredient. we will use the credit and then cancel and never return. Best of luck Blue Apron. Not a good customer service experience. Buyer beware.
