We had two great experiences with Cargurus. 1) I searched out a 2008 Ford escape for my son from a used car dealer and 2)Jan. 2020, I just purchased a 2017 Honda Accord Sport. Both experiences were fantastic. My husband is now thinking about researching his next vehicle.read more

CarGurus PAY Does Not Work!
Reviewed on 2020-08-21T23:57:56
I listed my car on Cargurus. I had a buyer lined up who said they wanted to do the deal remotely using CarGurus PAY (their online "Escrow" service - great idea, but it doesn't work). I went through all the steps, submitted all my personal information, DL photo, bank information, only to have their platform FAIL repeatedly to complete the final step of linking to my bank. It's a huge, National Bank, I don't have a lien, either - I tried a second bank - same problem. Support was UTTERLY USELESS. No phone number, just email, and after several emails, the guy says, "it appears we might not be able to help you with your transaction". Well, No S---. He suggested calling the DMV?? Lost the sale. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.read more
As a private seller I cannot recommend CarGurus
Reviewed on 2020-07-03T18:36:59
As a private seller I cannot recommend using CarGurus. I'm sure it works fine for dealers.Just the fact that CarGurus does not have support or can at all be contacted during weekends? Really? YES, most of the final car selling is actually happening during the weekends. I called support several times and I still have not heard back from them. I called them again on a Monday and was told that it would take up to 48 hours before I would get a call back on my problem! As this happened on a Saturday, I could not expect to hear from CarGurus before the following Wednesday... Really? So all in all not a very positive experience, sorry! I did sell my car though, but we where forced to complete the sale without the use of CarGurus, which is sad as I really wanted to have the security of using their secure pay process.read more
I will say they're useless

I will say they're useless. First many vehicles are already sold due to the car business. As others stayed many are just paid advertisements by dealers. The biggest thing that bothers me is on every car description it shows (get Pre-authorization} from Cap One or Westlake. Westlake is always higher rate FYI. But I spoke to several dealers after they get your number and when asked about the pre-approval they all said to that means nothing. Either they use their own banks, don't offer financing at all, cash only,or they have to run your report to get the real numbers. So my point is why bother giving people using the site the false sense of a budget when in reality it means nothing unless of course you want the highest rate anyways. The one dealer in Ohio has a Ford 150 with holes in frame. Don't ya think that should be in the vehicle description? Nothing bothers me more is when companies waste their potential customers time and hits to their credit and lose points. They should have enough experience in the finance department to know what historically will be required and how much down etc especially if you already know your score.read more

Below Par For The Industry

They have two failings which have earned them a 'Poor' rating- 1) Inability to flag a AD or seller for fraud.2) Lack of response to customer requests or complaints. Their 'Questions' section is full of questions where frustrated users make an effort to answer one another, but no 'Moderator' or official Car Guru presence that I could see. The strong impression is their business focus is on their dealer partners and not individual retail buyers. Pretty much every other site does it better.read more
