Terrible delays - Broken Product - Poor communication

I was very excited to see the computer they listed with the specifications I was looking for at such a reasonable price.I made the purchase for roughly $450 dollars and it arrived towards the tail end of the expected delivery window. No problems there. However, the box itself was in really rough shape. There were holes in it, it was smashed in places, and it appeared to be barely holding together. I was worried about the PC inside, but upon opening it everything looked to be fine.
Everything was included in box as expected. The PC appeared to be fine. I plugged it in, turned it on, it powered up, then it immediately died. Not a good sign. After rebooting several times, I managed to get the PC into recovery mode (mind you, Windows has yet to even be installed at this point) and I get an error stating something along the lines of a corrupt boot sector. I take my own personal copy of a Windows 10 USB recovery drive and boot the computer using that. I manage to get windows 10 installed and start noticing that the screen is flickering. Within 10 minutes the screen is flashing different colors and then going out completely. I open the machine to inspect it and everything seems intact. After troubleshooting for several hours more I suspect the motherboard is failing, which the display ports are wired into.
This was a big disappointment. At this point I knew I was going to have to send the computer back and get a replacement, but I figured the company would promptly make things right. Unfortunately, I was wrong. This is where things start to go downhill. I email the company on April 11th to inform them that the computer was broken, requested a replacement ASAP and gave them my contact info. 2 days later I get an email apologizing that the computer wasn’t working and that they were forwarding my request to the fulfillment team for next steps. I wasn’t given a timeline on when I would hear back. 2 days after that April 15th, at the end of the day, I email them to let them know I still haven’t heard back. Another 2 days goes by, now April 17th and I get an email saying they are still waiting on the fulfillment team. Okay fine, but still no timeline.
Finally, on April 21st, roughly 8 days after I first emailed, I get an email with return information. I ship the product back as soon as I could on April 25th and sent a follow up email requesting expedited shipping of a replacement. Keep in mind my initial purchase was made on April 1st.
I heard nothing back until May 1st. They inform me that unfortunately due to staffing they can’t expedite the process; they are going to take another 7-10 business days just to review the unit before even sending a replacement.
14 more days pass. It is now May 14th, and I send a follow up email letting them know that I am a little frustrated at this point. I haven’t heard about the status of my order or whether my replacement has been shipped. I acknowledged that they are short staffed and that there might be circumstances beyond their control with COVID, but am hoping they can wrap things up quickly because at this point its been about 6 weeks since I paid for the product. To their credit, they then message me back apologizing and assure me they will ship the product by the end of day May 15th, which they do.
12 days later the PC finally arrives on May 27th. Almost 2 full months after my initial purchase. The item has been shipped in the same, now even more damaged, box barely held together with a ton of tape. Luckily, this one has worked so far.
What I am primarily bothered by is the lack of flexibility in their replacing the broken product. Even sending it expedited shipping would have been a nice gesture. Given this experience, I have very little trust that they could fix a more significant issue and I can’t recommend purchasing from them in the future.read more

Here’s hoping PCMag will employ a little more independent journalism to tell both sides of a story going forward to regain some of their dwindling credibility.
Right now the publication is troubling. You trust it’s actual journalism, but when you come across the articles, it’s so biased it’s beyond belief. Take for example their Nov. 2019 article recommending and praising Lenovo laptops: (link removed as per TrustPilot policy, you can google it if interested for a specific example)
The comments are littered with complaints against Lenovo and their customer service. And these are the comments they haven’t yet filtered out completely. Then I checked Consumer Reports, and similarly found so many 1 Star comments, I stopped counting, also echoing the same, KNOWN, issues. Try to contact Lenovo customer support, you’ll find out exactly what’s up for yourself.
So this article full of praises for Lenovo, is it lack of due diligence? Simply not caring? Or simply part of their affiliate links program? When PCMag is more than happy to recommend Lenovo to it’s readers, how can you trust this publication or their writers?read more
