Awesome except for telehealth

Reviewed on 2021-05-10T20:02:51

Its easy to use and has most if the features I need. If I wasn’t using telehealth, I’d give it 5 stars. The telehealth feature needs work, specifically it’s ability to handle low bandwidth (SP drops out, whereas Google Meet and Zoom don’t) and I really want both a whiteboard feature and the ability to share my screen. I’m about ready to switch to Google Meet for telehealth. In my previous job, I used Zoom for tekehealth and it was a much better experience. That said, the rest if the program is awesome.

I started with SP this past January

Reviewed on 2021-05-10T12:47:55

I started with SP this past January, so I'd call myself a newbie. I have appreciated many features of SP,primarily the streamlined use of HIPAA/consent documents, the easy way to write notes using various templates (including EMDR notes), and the ease of charging/billing clients and tracking payments. The telehealth feature has also been valuable to me, with some frustrations regarding connectivity (I can't trust it enough to give up my zoom or doxy accounts, but when it works, it's great). There are some frustrating things, however, that I consider worth mentioning....for example--many clients need a month end receipt for submission to insurance companies, and I have to add my electronic signature to EACH RECEIPT, EVERY MONTH via PDF before getting it to the client (it's also confusingly called a 'super-bill' in the system, instead of 'super-receipt'). Also, when I have questions and need guidance, it's difficult to get answers by talking with someone and then following up with that person. It would be so much easier (and user friendly for me) if I had a relationship with one staff person or two that could answer my questions and then send me on my way. Overall, I have appreciated many aspects of the program, and love how portable it is. I TRY to not worry about SP being hacked, as has happened to other EHR systems.

Solid functionality but issues with UI design and Telehealth performance

Reviewed on 2021-05-08T21:28:05

Simple Practice is a reasonably priced and functional option for running a practice, but has some drawbacks in terms of design and performance. Core functionality is solid for calendaring, charging, and record keeping. Some significant oversights with regard to setting up a virtual practice not using their video service have been rectified to some extent but more customizability as to what appears on the client portal with regard to geography is needed. With the move to Twilio as the backbone for the Simple Practice Telehealth option (which is used by many major health providers), I was willing to switch but so far have been very disappointed by clients reporting connectivity issues at the start of session and with many sessions with poor video performance. The system dies completely if you attempt to use HD resolution. The SP user interface is a bit clumsy with regard to quickly locating features. Reporting seems oriented to cash based rather than accrual accounting which makes it difficult to accurately assess performance. I have appreciated the capacity to have separate psychotherapy notes from progress notes for each session, and the customizability of documents. Intake through the portal with customizable questionnaires and consents is pretty good although strangely clients are not able to easily see how to continue the registration process if they choose not to pay by credit card. The portal also does not allow clients to update their payment method, requiring the clinician to delete the original card and resend a link to clients. So 1990. Stripe fees are pretty steep for credit card transitions and they don’t disburse money for about 3 business days, which seems to be standard practice in my experience with other EHR systems but is clearly taking advantage of users of their service since there are few options for automated charging of clients after session.

I couldn't be happier…

Reviewed on 2021-04-29T18:54:46

I couldn't be happier with this service. I just started my private practice (2/2021) and found everything I need.Best of all, it is extremely user friendly (and technology is NOT my strong suit). I watched several of the support videos during my free trial and was ready to go once I had my first client. I have had no difficulties. I did have 2 questions which were nicely handled by email in one case and through a 1:1 meeting with a support staff on another occasion. I highly recommend this platform.

I have mixed feelings

Reviewed on 2021-04-28T20:03:19

I have mixed feelings. One one hand the one month free is not worth it because it takes an entire month to understand how to use their system. It’s not intuitive, it’s overly complicated, and at times not user friendly. On the other hand it is better than most and streamlines a lot. As some one who does private practice as a side business it costs almost what I make. I wish they had price packages depending on total clients served and such.

SP is a really good site for notes

Reviewed on 2021-04-11T23:08:48

SP is a really good site for notes, for being HIPPA compliant, and for video visits. The challenge has been when I have a question and need to talk with someone right away.I’ve used the chat and email and have gotten help ultimately, but it takes a long time to connect. When I’ve chatted, I’m the 4th in the queue for instance. By the time they get back to me, I’m with my next client. And then I start over again trying to connect. This is disappointing. It would be so much easier if SP had a customer service line to call when we have questions. This is the only challenging issue I’ve had with SP. everything else is very good with the site.

Customer service

Reviewed on 2021-02-16T15:41:05

I enjoy SP as a scheduling and paperwork platform for our counseling department in our church, however, getting a hold of customer service has been difficult. I have questions on how to make changes to the on-line scheduling and I cannot get a hold of anyone. Everything I click on just takes me in circles. If you are looking for a software with (live) good support don't choose SP. I cannot find an email or a phone number anywhere. Customer Service if you receive this message please respond with how I can get a hold of someone. It would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Going on five years- no problems

Reviewed on 2021-02-12T21:19:56

I’ve used Simple Practice since I went out on my own and started a private practice (2017).This platform is wonderful as evidenced by: never having had issues with the site crashing, easy to navigate, everything is HIPPA secure with secure portals for clients, creating documents (with or without using Simple Practice templates) is a breeze, continuing education courses on cutting edge topics, online magazine, help creating a website, client reminders via email, phone and text, insurance billing is simple. What’s not to like? Check it out.
