Avoid VRBO at all costs. In all my years of travel, I’ve never experienced customer service at such a low level (in any industry).They will tell you one thing, then the next person will tell you something completely different. They lie. And if they can’t solve an issue, they simply hang up. Then it’s another hour on hold til you get the next person. I even tried their “live chat” feature only to be told I had to call in. Lot of help their chat feature is! This company is a joke.

VRBO is dishonest and shady

VRBO is a company that clearly lacks honesty and integrity. They tell you that your reservation is 100% refundable if canceled before a certain date,but in reality even when the cancellation is made before the deadline, they do not refund their service fee. After calling them to ask about it and verifying the cancellation, they tell you that they have to have someone "higher up look into the situation and get back to you." Why would you not just honor your word instead of making someone jump through the hoops to get back what is rightfully theirs? They are clearly relying on customers either not noticing that an "error" was made or cannot be bothered to take the time to fight to get it resolved. A dishonest company like VRBO does not deserve to be in business.

Renters Beware

My holiday cottage is being advertised on Vrbo illegally without my consent. It is stating that the cottage is available when it is not,being advertised at a relatively cheaper rate and requesting full payment directly into the scammer's foreign bank account. This is the second year in a row that this has happened. I contacted Vrbo (Expedia Group) many times last year and because I didn’t have a property ID number, they were not prepared to talk to me. This, of course, is absurd as I don’t have a property ID as I do not advertise a property on their site. I was able to send them a copy of a screen shot of one of the illegal reservations that were made with a property ID that the scammers were using, but they could not verify that ID and therefore, unable to help me. This is a company that has no concern for travellers or owners. They relinquish all responsibilities by saying: “Vrbo are an online platform and not party to any transaction between users. Each owner or property manager is responsible for management of their properties and bookings” An online platform for whom? My advice to anyone wanting to rent through this company is: i) don’t; and ii) do your research. Try and find the property on another site not related to the Expedia Group, and if you can, contact the owner directly. Most owners advertise on several sites. Update: Hi Morgan, Thank you for your generic reply. There is no need to apologise for my dissatisfaction. I do not propose to share any details regarding my experience with your customer service as I already wasted valuable time and money contacting you last year to get nowhere. I have given you the facts and it is up to you as a Company to investigate the illegal advertisements on your platform. -Bridget

Website and App Problems

When booking on the website, I got an error message so I immediately tried again. It came back and said the unit was booked.I thought that was strange so I called the VRBO main number to see if my reservation went through. They were unable to help me and said they could tell it was booked but could not see if it was me or someone else. I did receive notice from my credit card that there was a hold put on my card from VRBO but I couldn't see my reservation anywhere. I finally messaged the manager of the unit where I am staying and they confirmed that I did have a reservation and they sent me a copy of the confirmation/receipt. I still cannot see my reservation on the website or the app. I receive emails about my upcoming trip but when I follow the link, the website says I have no trips scheduled. I haven't had my trip yet, but I won't feel everything is good until I'm there and checked in. I am very unhappy with the reservation process and am not sure I will use VRBO again because the booking process has been so much stress. This is our first time using VRBO and it may be the last. If it wasn't for the manager of the unit responding to me, I would be staying somewhere else.

I would give them 0 if it was possible. VRBO is hands down the most disgusting company I have ever interacted with.I got a VRBO home for a nice little trip away. Upon entering the home. We were screamed at by thr host. Less then 2 feet and with no mask. We felt threatened and he kicked us out. He broke the local law and state law against covid and threatened us. We left and called VRBO to be met with they can do nothing. They can't even refund us for the original trip. We had to get a hotel with our three dogs out of pocket. We then spoke to VRBO and they said that because we left we can't get a refund and it not their job to find us a place to stay. Our trip cut short. Lift ticket costs wasted. Groceries wasted. All for a company who doesn't have its customers backs when they were threatened. I'm sure plenty of people have great experiences. However IF you need customer service to have your back or help in anyway they just won't. We're out thousands of dollars hours of time and we got no vacation. I would never ever ever ever use VRBO and I think a company like Expedia should not work with them. I expect expedia to reach out to right this wrong

I’m very unsure of the rules during the most recent provincial wide lockdown. From what I have read it is illegal to rent a VRBO unless you need housing.For me that is not the case. I can not go on this trip knowing I’m breaking the law. Can I be refunded for my deposit? I reached to the owners and their is no future opportunities in the near future. Please let me know how I can feel confident that I will be fully refunded Regards David Kendal

There are scam sites on VRBO available to rent over the summer. Be careful that you don't get sucked into the scam and paying money to a third party.The listing states that any booking would be cancelled and only taken directly with the owner. An Email to the owner was answered by a Scam Email from a fake VRBO Email address to request direct payment to a bank in Italy. When raising my concern with VRBO, I had to deal with an agent who could not/would not help. I then phoned and spoke to an agent you would not/could not help. I asked to speak to a manager, which they refused to do, and then hung up on me. Do not use this site. Do not use this organisation. You will get no support, even if you are trying to support them. Further to note, I've just seen other reviews on Trustpilot, the same concern was raised with VRBO one week ago, and the listing is still there...clearly VRBO is very slow to act on concerns and scams.
