Don't order a macbook air if you really need it

Reviewed on 2021-03-06T16:36:13

I placed an order for a macbook air on December 28th. They charged my credit card on the 30th and gave me a 3 week ship date. They have revised that ship date too many times to count. The "first week in March" shipping date(?) has now been revised to the 2nd week in April. All the while they are advertising that they have this same model in stock! I'm not sure if I'll ever get it. Do not buy a computer from Adorama if you actually need it anytime soon.

Shady business

Shady business Won two of their eBay auctions for good prices. I paid and soon after they cancelled both items claiming to eBay that I had requested they be cancelled - a total lie.I reported them to eBay. When I asked them about it - they said my purchased failed their verification which is BS and makes no sense. You pay via PayPal which covers both of us. It saddens me to see businesses run like this. Very shady and dishonest. Avoid like the plague.

Dealing with Adorama has been a nightmare. I decided I was going to purchase a brand new camera and lens using the student discount, which in total made the order roughly $2000. Being a college student, this was a very significant amount of money (it is either way) so I was a little hesitant to make the purchase. I had also decided to purchase a warranty that would cover $2000 dollars worth of camera bodies and lenses, which was very convenient as both the body and lens would be covered. I placed the order in mid-December of last year, and with the shipping, it was expect to arrive within 3 business days. The warranty was digital so it arrived immediately and covered both the body and the lens I had just purchased. I checked the tracking number every day, but there was no indication that the package had even been received by the carrier. I contacted Adorama multiple times to ask about this, but their response was to be patient and check the tracking number every day. 5 days passed and there still had not been any new updates to the shipping, so I contacted an Adorama service rep for about the 3rd time. They claimed that the package had most likely been lost in the mail (doubtful as the carrier would have scanned it as soon as it was received) and said that they would send a replacement. I was already very frustrated because I was expecting it to arrive before a trip I was going to take, but that opportunity had passed. After placing the replacement order I was checking the shipping information daily again. This package had been delayed AGAIN as it was not given to the carrier in a timely manner. I was furious, however I was not as mad as my own mother. She knew that I had worked very hard to save up for this and when I was being treated so poorly by Adorama customer service (they were indifferent and daft), so she had gotten on the phone with a representative and demanded that the replacement be shipped overnight and that I receive some kind of compensation for the trouble. They agreed to ship the camera overnight after nearly an hour and a half on the phone, as well as issuing a $50 refund, which I was very surprised by. I do not think that it made up for the inconvenience they caused, but at least it was something. Also, in order for them to send the second replacement, they required me to pay another $2000 and they would just cancel the original order rather than just modify the shipping on the existing order. They didn't issue the refund for the original order until WEEKS after, which had me very very worried. The camera arrived after the THIRD attempt, which was a relief. The lens and camera were under warranty, which also was relieving. But it was too good to be true. About a month after receiving the camera (which is around 1.5 months after placing the original order) the warranty from the original order was canceled and refunded out of the blue. I had NEVER told anyone to cancel or refund the warranty, so I cannot imagine why it was stopped. I had contacted customer service reps many many many times to try to figure this out, and they were absolutely horrible. One of them accused me of sending a return with an empty box, and then just left the chat! She was threatening me and accusing me of fraud. I called one of their reps on the phone named Roxanne. She said that all I had to do was place an order for a new warranty, and everything would be taken care of. I placed the order, and I waited. Nothing happened for a few days, so I called her back. She said that she would take care of it and that she would follow up with me within a day. Another 3 days passed so I called again. She said she would call me back by the end of the day, but never did. This went on about 2 or 3 more times, and then I told her that if she could not figure the issue out by the end of the week, I would want a refund for the warranty. The end of the week came and I had no refund. I had emailed and called her asking to respond or for some kind of update, but she was totally silent. This is the worst customer service I have ever experience in my life from any company. I beg you to use B&H instead for whatever you need and to avoid these people at all costs. Their customer service is utterly incompetent and does not care about you one bit.

Trade-in policy dishonest, sales approach oblique

terrible experience, never shop there again. Turned in a slightly used Sony a7r2 and accessories after given a quote of $900,that after receipt of the camera was was confirmed. Explicitly advised that this was a trade-in for buying a new Sonya7r4 expecting that to be the case. It was not but only $630 was allowed for cash value. The rest of the order process was like a shell game, with unnecessary items thrown in, and items I wanted to add like batteries second rate third party and then added shipping costs to boot. They made the sale but permanently lost a customer. Never ever trust this company

Red R. From Adorama Claims department has been intentionally refusing to help and send back paper work to UPS for a missing package for a month now.Do not order from Adorama!!!! If there is any issue with the delivery they will not take responsibility. I have had to call and email both businesses about 40 times in the last month, do all the detective work and when I finally got UPS to set up and complete a claim I am now being stonewalled by Adorama who refuses to fill out the paperwork for reimbursement and send back to UPS. Red also purposefully only answers emails right at closing time on Fridays so you then have to wait all weekend to get a response. Please spare your a headache, anxiety, and insult. Shop elsewhere!

Terrible experience

Terrible experience. Will not shop here again. They show things on their website (at a bargain price)that are NOT in stock. Repeat: NOT IN STOCK. Then they inform you, some time later, that it's on back order. It's the old bait-and-switch routine. I waited three months for an Apple laptop and never did get it. Finally changed the order to an "equivalent" laptop on their website and --guess what? -- not in stock. My advice: shop elsewhere!

Really not worth the trouble. Customer Service is very low priority.

I had some camera gear that I'd decided to trade-in for an upgrade. I knew I'd be getting less than I would if I sold it myself, but I'm tired of dealing with tire kickers and people telling sob stories about their infant with cancer that somehow needs a pro-grade mirrorless camera that's 3 generations old. I figured going with Adorama would be quick and simple so I shot them a request. I spoke with a very fast talking trade-in rep and got the process started. He was nice enough, but when I say fast talking, I mean it. It was like he was racing to finish the call. Either way though, he sent me a shipping label, I packaged my gear and shipped it off. And then didn't hear anything for almost 2 weeks. It arrived after about 7 days, but I didn't get a response or inquiry or evaluation until I started calling and emailing. I ended up actually having to talk through 3 different levels of people before I finally got some answers. The offer they made was low. Quite low in fact. Based on their own 70% claim, it was low. So I exercised my choice to have to sent back and the Trade-in Specialist agreed to have it shipped out that day (it was about noon there when this occurred). Before I could ask to have tracking info sent to me, he said 'Bye' and hung up. Okay, kinda brusque, but I imagine he's got a quota or something and my dead-end wasn't worth it anymore. Fair enough. Next day, I get a call from him asking what he offered the day before. Knowing what this was, I told him and he made a follow-up offer. Now, to be fair, the follow-up offer was more aligned with what I was hoping for. Not QUITE the price I was anticipating, but close enough. However, this also meant that my camera was still sitting in a tray on some dude's work station....not in a shipping box addressed to me like it should have been. Really, this should have been the (final) red flag. But, given that it was clearly going to be a while before I had a camera to shoot with, I cut my losses and figured I'd take the offer and upgrade. Either I get my own camera back in some indeterminate amount of time, or I get a newer/better one....which was my goal to start with. Before I'd even had time to write the dollar amounts down, he'd transferred me to a sales associate. The sales associate was also friendly enough, if not another fast talker. We managed to find the gear I was looking to purchase and got the order together. As we went through price, something didn't quite add up completely. However, before I'd even had a moment to review numbers, he was already charging my card and closing the conversation. In fact, I was essentially hung up on. Nevertheless, I saw the payment go through on my end and shortly thereafter, an invoice email. That's when I saw the error. The price was off by about $50. The credit from my trade-in was the old offer, which was about $300 less than the new one. When I pointed it out over email, he responded that they'd discounted the camera body I purchased by the difference....except they hadn't. There was still a $50 gap. Unfortunately, by this point, I was somewhere between done and ready to cancel entirely.....but given the difficulty, I allowed myself to fall victim to sunk cost and just live with it. After all, it seems every additional step restarts a timer at Adorama where they don't respond for 24 hours+. Perhaps it's incompetence. Perhaps it's intentionally designed this way. Who knows? What I do know is not a single step of this process has made me feel good about doing business with them. That was about 48 hours ago. My new camera is still sitting, waiting to be shipped. The website says orders made before 6pm EST ship the same day. Math isn't my strong suit, but that doesn't really add up. So now, I just wait and hope I get what I paid for someday. Not really impressed at all with this experience and have no intention of returning for future photography gear. Their prices aren't any better, they're not any quicker, and they're not any more helpful or friendly than any of their competition, so why would I? At the end of the day, I'll consider this a somewhat pricey lesson learned.

Adorama ships a package and FedEx apparently delivered to my house. Camera footage and proof sent to Adorama and a case was opened to FedEx.FedEx has deemed package lost and closed file. Called Adorama to submit a claim. They have yet to submit a claim as they advise they are still investigating on their end if the package was actually lost. "WHAT IS THERE TO INVESTIGATE" FedEx has asked you to submit a claim and yet you havent so it can be approved for replacement. Its been since Feb 4th, 2021 and no success with a replacement package. Still being given the run around that they are working on it........ best part... they keep repeating that i am not the only customer they have for claims.... yes thats normal.... but a customer doesnt have to hear that comment, each customer case is its own case... techincally i have done the work for these guys and they still refuse to send a replacement or submit a claim. DO NOT SHOP here. Go to a direct source. whats a waste of time and money. I had a deadline to meet for training a class and these guys have no respect on that either yet they talk down to you like you are some idiot. At this point they are holding my money hostage and not willing to give it back and only further drag this.
