Has Blackstone acquired a long-running caravan sales scam?

On 9th March 2021, following Blackstone’s acquisition of Bourne Leisure, I sent an email to its CEO,Stephen Schwarzman, with evidence that caravans had been mis-sold for years by the newly acquired company, and expressed hope that “the whole murky business” would be “cleaned up” and an “honest and trustworthy ethos” would now be established for the future. I emailed Mr Schwarzman again on 18th April, notifying him of the Charging Order currently on our home in favour of Bourne Leisure, but I have received no response to these emails – not even an acknowledgment. How long should I be expected to wait for a formal communication from Blackstone? What is the appropriate time to wait for a response to an email? Is eight weeks long enough before accepting that a reply is not going to arrive? During the time we have been seeking justice and a remedy to our claim of being cheated by Bourne Leisure and Black Horse over the mis-selling of a caravan in 2013, we have uncovered a number of disturbing facts of how large companies like these are able (if they so choose) to abuse their powers and misuse the legal system to their own advantage. This propensity has been highlighted by revelations in recent times of the Post Office’s prosecution of many sub-postmasters/mistresses falsely accused of fraud and then spending millions of pounds opposing their fight for justice through the courts. What happened to us is hardly on the same scale as being accused of robbing the Post Office but our experience has echoes and similarities: with big companies like Bourne Leisure and Black Horse being able to mislead and manipulate the County Court system. In our case, for instance, it was falsely claimed that we knew exactly what was included in the ‘cash price’ of £21,995 charged for the caravan when, in fact, we did not know that the price included £199 for a ‘Ramtech Classic’ alarm system, £93.75 for ‘advanced fuel deposit’, and £19.50 for a smoke alarm among other items and service charges, which were all added to the hire purchase repayments. We were put down by the solicitors and barristers representing the companies, and the impression was created that we were the type of people whose word was not to be trusted. Having succeeded in obtaining a favourable court judgment against us (at no small cost: in excess of £84,000.00) whilst at the same time totally besmirching our characters and credibility, these companies continue to ‘dine out’ on their Pyrrhic victory and hide behind the court’s erroneous decision to this day, presumably using it as an excuse for ignoring us and hindering our efforts to unearth the truth. It is not only us that these companies have cheated on. Our plight began in June 2013 when a caravan was ‘sold’ on hire purchase where first year service charges included in the cash price were repayable with interest over 84 months. However, as this practice continued up to the end of 2019 before it was eventually abandoned, many more victims must have suffered from being mis-sold caravans during the intervening period and possibly even before 2013. Having now inherited this kind of legacy from Bourne Leisure, in some ways I am not surprised to be kept waiting for a response from Blackstone.
