You will wait months for support to answer emails...

Reviewed on 2021-03-30T18:12:12

I run an accounting firm and provide tax, bookkeeping, and payroll services to small businesses. We use apps like Gusto to save our team time and provide additional expertise in payroll. Overall, Gusto is okay. They were excellent several years ago, but seem to have grown too fast and let their customer service rot. I would not recommend them if you have anything but the most basic payroll needs. I do NOT recommend them if you need additional support in employee benefits or fixing reporting errors. We were forced to manually file and correct several payroll filings even though the payrolls were run through Gusto, because their "software" would not allow them to make these corrections. PROS: Gusto has a great online portal for accountants and employees. Intuitive to use for payroll. Easy on boarding for new companies and new employees. Great blog and help articles for how to setup payroll in new states, etc. Phone customer service is helpful and easily available. CONS: They are clunky and confusing if you have any employee benefits. They don't provide the support they promise with retirement, health insurance, fringe benefits, etc. We never had these benefits reported correctly through Gusto. They will spam any employee registered with them with offers on other financial services like pay day loans and savings accounts. Not only are some of these products ethically questionable, its extremely unprofessional to send marketing emails to your client's employees. I don't know why Gusto - ostensibly a payroll and HR service - would branch into these other, riskier financial products. You can call and talk to a customer service agent, but for any filings or historical paychecks you will need to email support. You will wait months to hear back from this email. The representatives here do not carefully read these messages and you will have lots of back and forth before any action is taken. You may even need to call and have someone else update the support team so that they are clear on the situation. In the event a user makes a mistake when using Gusto's software, they will do nothing to help you correct the historical reporting or filings, even if you were a Gusto customer at the time. We had to manually file corrections many times.

Customer service is nonexistent

Reviewed on 2021-03-17T15:04:15

It's nearly impossible to get through to customer service. There's no number to call. The chat will say your estimated wait time is 2-4 minutes when it's really over an hour. The callbacks just don't happen. Complete joke.

Poor Customer Support, Delayed Responses

Reviewed on 2021-03-16T19:26:30

I love the user interface and how easy it is to navigate the dashboard. Other than that, that is the only positive. Their customer support could use some improvements BIG TIME. They take a long time to respond, and when they do, they DON'T help or answer questions directly. It seems as if their customer support is outsourced or poorly managed. I know because I do consulting work in customer experience. When I look at the reviews on Glassdoor from employees, many unhappy employees work in customer care, which explains their service delivery or lack thereof. It is hard to reach anyone on the phone, and their email support takes weeks to reply. Because of all of the trouble, I have decided to look for a competitor to manage my payroll. Customer service will drive your customers away! I hope they listen and improve.

Gusto Gives Up On Customers

Reviewed on 2021-03-11T04:52:02

Gusto has some nice features and we've been using their payroll service for two years. While running into documentation issues in the past, it took days for them to acknowledge our email request, plus weeks after for them to fix our problem. Here we are again this year. Our W2s have issues and Gusto took days to even reply to the first email. It's been nearly two weeks since we have asked follow up questions without any acknowledgment from Gusto (and we message every other day simply asking for an estimated date when we can be assisted). Where are you, Gusto? It seems you don't care about your customers. From the complaints I see on Twitter, I'm not the only one. Stay far away and work with a more professional company. My problem is still not fixed at the time of writing this. 03-11-2021

DON'T USE GUSTO

Reviewed on 2021-03-06T01:35:07

DON'T USE GUSTO. My company started using them for the first time January 1st, 2021. We were up-sold health insurance. We received an approval email and they let us know we would receive cards in a few weeks. Employee's paycheck had the reduction for the health insurance and the dashboard displayed the active plan selected. An employee had an upcoming appointment and because we were still waiting on ID cards he called the insurance company and found out that the policy was NOT active and that the insurance company had reached out to Gusto FOUR times previously to resolve it and their brokers were unresponsive. Our company actively reached out to Gusto to try and resolve the issue. Customer service was nil. We didn't get a response until I started spamming the founders LinkedIn's. Tomer London sent a nice response immediately saying he would escalate and help. Well next day we received an email basically saying they aren't going to help us and they are punting to their lawyers to communicate with us going forward. Stay away from Gusto - Poor customer service and shameful leadership.

Terrible company

Terrible company. Up sold us health insurance. Sent approval letter and said we will get ID cards in a few weeks, took money out of paychecks, benefits tab list active policy - SURPRISE - Gusto Brokers didn't finish the paperwork and there was zero health insurance coverage. Don't risk your small business and life work by working with Gusto.

I feel terrible having to post this but…

Reviewed on 2021-02-21T16:44:27

Update: Gusto was very quick in resolving the issue after this was posted. I appreciate them escalatingthe problem and resolving it. I feel terrible having to post this but after using this service for almost 4 years I have seen this company at its peak and at its current lowest. Customer service used to be great, I don't know if they started to outsource their team, however, if they have they need better training and communication skills. I have been going back and forth regarding my FSA account and providing necessary documents for my current medical exams and Gusto continues to deny my claims. They state that they need information from the provider and insurance company which I have given them. According to them nothing is sufficient. This process used to be so easy - I understand that some people are shady and want to get every little thing paid for but this isn't a petty CVS receipt where it's only a $12 loss. This is my dental and eye exams that are over $350 that they keep denying. All information is legible on the invoices and they continue to refuse my documents. I have also asked to have my FSA cancelled and have any monies refunded back to me that I have paid into this account. I will pay my invoices directly and I want this account closed however, they do not reply back when I send a lengthy response to them. It's like they pick and choose what they want to "deal with". In the past, Gusto was great, super easy to use and great service, but unfortunately, like all great companies who grow to be larger they start to lose their value and support.
