Brilliant company and product and easy to use, allowing you to travel around Europe.I have done 4 trips now using the global passes. One with the 10 days in 1 months pass; Two with the 10 days in 2 month pass and One with the 3 days in 1 one month pass. I have never had any issues with using the pass to travel, no need to be purchasing train tickets as you travel, and freedom to pick where to go next when you wish. And, only had to make a few reservations during my trips.
Having read other reviews a piece of advice would be if people do proper research and read the information on the website and ask questions on the facebook group, before buying the pass then they will understand how the pass works; what the pass covers; that reservations may be required on top of the pass and how much those reservations could be and would not then be shocked about this information when they receive their pass, read the info in the pack or start their trip.read more

I've had a pretty difficult time with Interrail. The actual idea of course is really good - reasonablypriced travel throughout Europe with one simple pass - and they are the only people who offer it, but the execution is poor, so I think I have to review them based on that.
The problems mainly stem from their mediocre website and app. There are a number of confusing and nonsenicle things about them both, and also some really quite severe problems in my case.
By far the most concerning problem is that, in the last few days, my pass is coming up as invalid on trains. It happened twice, on different days, different train operators (different countries in fact), so it doesn't seem to be a one off. I am still waiting for their help, but they haven't replied for 24 hours now and I'm getting tired of waiting, which led me to write a review in the hope it helps others. Perhaps this one is specific to me, but the fact that it can happen and that they so far have been unable to help is more than a little troubling and leaves my whole trip in question.
EDIT: the customer support reply and informed me that SSB, the Swiss rail company, are not able to scan my digital pass yet. Apparently there is a website for the inspectors to check the validity, and but inspectors I met didn't seem to know this, and it certainly wasn't mentioned when I bought my pass!
Then there was the fact that I was struggling to use my pass on the S-Bahn in Bern. I had checked on their website that it would be valid and the first page that came up made it clear that it would be, but when I contacted then they pointed me to a different page which stated that it is only valid on the Zurich S-Bahn in Switzerland. They apologized for their mistake and said they will fix it, but it is concerning what other errors there might be in their information which could lead to a fine.
Some more trivial but annoying problems include the fact that when you find a journey on the app, you can "save" it, but this will not yet allow you to show your ticket - there is also a second step of "adding" it to your trip. I'm sure there is a good reason for this (I guess because you can have multiple trips?) but it's not intuitive and caught me out on my first day. Why doesn't it just prompt me with which trip I want to add it to?
Then there is other weird behaviour like, when you buy reservervations on the website (needed for the Eurostar or most trains in France), it doesn't seem to be properly linked to your account even though you have to be logged in. You have to re-enter some details like your mobile number or where you bought your pass (they should know, I bought it from them!) for every purchase. More annoyingly, there's no option to add it to your trip. You just get sent the reservation by email, and then you have to follow a second manual step of adding the same journey in the app. Surely this could be one smooth process.
By the way, about the app - this is a recent development which in theory is far more convenient replacement for the old paper ticket which you had to write on. But the problem is that at least half of the ticket inspectors I encountered have never seen it before, which can be awkward to deal with when you don't speak the local language.
Essentially, it is a very poorly thought-through piece of software.
On the positive side - on the occasions when everything is working, and the ticket inspector knows what they are doing, it is brilliant - you just scan your pass at the gate or show it to the inspector, and you can travel anywhere. You do get used to the frustrating design of the app and website and their quirks, at which point it becomes quite usable. And the customer service staff usually reply within 24 hours (sadly not for my most recent and most critical problem but they've not been too bad before that), and are always very friendly. They do try their best to help too, even if they don't always manage it.
So in conclusion, Interrail is a fantastic idea run by well-meaning people and is brilliant when it works. But it would appear, sadly, to be incompetantly run, particularly where technology is involved, which will just become more of a problem as they push toward the app-based pass. As it stands right now I am having a far more stressful time than if I just bought the tickets manually, and I'm slightly put off travelling by train because I don't want to get fined due to inspectors who don't understand my ticket, and that's a great shame. Given the amount of money I spent, I also feel pretty disappointed and a bit ripped off. I hope they improve and that others have a better experience than me, but right now, I would be cautious before you pay. At the very least, a paper pass might be a better choice while they are still available.read more
Very good for flexible travel
Reviewed on 2020-09-07T12:31:27
I bought an interrail pass twice to be flexible in my travel dates as it is way cheaper than buyingtickets at the station (London to Cornwall roundtrip for example can be £150 if you don't buy in advance. So I did the whole journey from Germany.
I calculated everything before and found it will definitely be cheaper + the flexibility is a huge plus.
Also the reservation costs (Eurostar through Brussels) were only about 30€, so that was fine for me.
It really depends on the route you take, sometimes you can easily avoid reservations. Make sure you compare the costs before you buy (and complain), look up all fees
For me the global pass is a very good solution for flexible travel, especially when trains and flights are being cancelled. Can 100% recommend!
The only thing is that the rail planner app doesn't have up to date information on trains. I only use the DB app as it doesn't show already cancelled trains anymore. Please fix that :)
Also the Eurostar reservations only work well for the Brussels route, the Paris route somehow never showed me available reservations and when I got a link from another user it was perfect. Please make sure you provide the correct links and make sure they actually work. Sometimes reservations can be very confusing.read more
