What does KeePass do?

KeePass is a free open source password manager that allows its users to manage their passwords in a secure way. It is a light-weight and easy-to-use password manager with many extensions and plugins. KeePass enables users to put all their passwords in one database which is locked with one master key or a key file. The users only have to remember one single master password or select the key file to unlock the whole database. Its databases are encrypted using the secure encryption algorithms currently known as AES and Twofish. As KeePass is really free and open source, its users can have a look at its full source and check whether the encryption algorithms are implemented correctly without any payment.

I put off changing all my passwords for a long time because I didn't want to have to go through everything and update that information. It wasn't until my laptop got stolen and I was forced to secure all my accounts that I decided it's time to switch over. I'm glad I did, it really makes signing in easier, and I'm much happier knowing my passwords are far more secure now than they've ever been in the past.

Don't delegate the responsibility of securing all your passwords! Use KeePass and one password to rule them all.

Keepass offers the possibility to keep a local database of all your password, so if someone wants togain access to it they have to physically access your device before they can attempt anything on the heavily encrypted file itself. I started using Keepass on a personal computer running under Linux, and I particularly liked the fact that it was open-source (peer audited) and cross-platform. I value the safety of my critical data, especially after one of my passwords was compromised by the infamous Heartbleed flaw. The inbuilt password generator of Keepass means that you don't even have to worry about coming up with new passwords or remembering them. All you need is a long and complex, but easy to rember master password. The cross-platform nature of Keepass allows to move the database to various devices: Windows, OSX, Android, iOS, Blackberry OS, iOS... you name it. We are encouraged to transfer more and more of our sensitive data on remote cloud servers that can easily be compromised by flawed security code, but a solution like Keepass means that you don't have to delegate responsibility and you can stay in charge of your critical data.
