My second Lowepro camera backpack. This one has the innovative swivel to the front function which isvery useful when carrying a lot of equipment and especially using a large telephoto lens.
Quality looks fine with robust zips, good padding and a waterproof / sun cover.
Lighter in weight than my older and smaller bag.read more
This review is for the Truckee BP250…

This review is for the Truckee BP250 backpack. I have had the pack for about a month and have taken it out on about a half dozen day hikes and it has meet all of my expectations.I will begin this review with some general comments and then go into detail on how I use it what features are important to me as this is really the crux of the matter.
Overall the pack appears to be quite well made. The materials look like they will be durable, stitching is well done, zippers are robust and operate smoothly. With the camera compartment fully loaded the pack sits comfortably and the padding on the back prevents the gear from digging into my back. For my needs the gear compartment is just the right size and the padding is good. Access to the gear is good (again for my needs) and other compartments in the pack easily hold everything I need for a day hike. I have no reservations giving it 5 stars.
Now to put the above comments into perspective I will describe how I use the pack, which I purchased for a specific purpose. I am an experienced enthusiast photographer with a primary interest in nature photography. I shoot landscapes and document flora and fauna in nature preserves, state and national parks near where I live. I purchased the Truckee BP250 so that I could carry both my camera gear and other essentials on my photographic day hikes. I drive to the trailhead, spend the afternoon in the field and drive home afterwards so I am not packing 90lbs of wilderness gear. I go out year round in weather ranging from hot & humid to sub-zero temps. The hikes are not technically challenging nor particularly rugged, though weather conditions can change rapidly. In addition to my camera gear I typically pack a light jacket, heavy shirt, windbreaker, gloves or rain coat depending on the season. Adequate food/snacks for 4 to 8 hours and a couple bottles of water. A small first aid kit, towel, bug spray, multi-tool, notepad and pencil usually round out my kit. I do not bring a laptop or tablet, though my 13” macbook pro would fit easily and with adequate protection.
A typical camera loadout would be a Nikon Z6 II, 24-70mm f/4, 14-30mm f/4, 70-300mm Zoom and FTZ adapter in the camera compartment. This gear fits perfectly with the provided dividers, though a larger camera body or significantly larger lenses would be problematic. Additionally I bring two polarizing filters, extra battery and memory cards, lens tissue, brush and blower bulb. I usually have a tripod or monopod, but do not attach it to the backpack. I also carry a Sony RX100 with spare battery and memory cards.
Once out on the trail I have my camera out and my lens selection has usually been considered in advance based on the days agenda, so quick access is not a consideration though I do find that access to the camera gear is very good with the pack off. One of the reasons I bought the Truckee is specifically because I wanted a relatively light pack for these day hikes. I have a Lowepro Flipside 400AW which I consider too bulky and stiff with no space for my non-camera gear. The padding on the Truckee is not as thick and protective as the Flipside, but I consider it more than adequate to protect my gear as I transport it by car and for field use. I do not baby it in the field, but I don’t carelessly toss it around either. I would use the truckee as carry on luggage (the size is appropriate) for air travel but would not check it. I like being able to quickly doff and don the backpack and do so many times on a typical outing with no concerns. The Truckee is not waterproof, but I have no reservations about being caught in a light rain. If I were expecting to possibly have to sit out a thunderstorm I’d pack a child size poncho to cover the pack. At 5’ 9” and 150lbs I find the width and thickness of the shoulder straps are very comfortable for me during a day of hiking. There is sufficient length in the straps that I will be able to use it when wearing my heavy winter coat.read more
