Rude security personnel

Reviewed on 2020-08-16T16:44:33

While going through security, I placed my backpack in a tray and put it on the conveyor belt that feeds the X-Ray machine. The security lady said to 'turn the bach'. I thought she meant turn the bag, so I turned it 90 degrees (Germans can be very particular). She repeated it. So I turned it 90 degrees again. Then she said it again in an angry tone. So I told her I have no idea what she is telling me to do. She rolls her eyes and yells 'Oh Jesus Christ!'. Meanwhile, there are people behind me just wanting to get through the security line (and me too). Finally, I figure out that she wants me to turn the tray 90 degrees. She was saying 'Turn the box'. But why couldn't the lady just turn the darn tray herself instead of yelling at me? She was standing right there. I thought it was very rude behavior.

Rental car return didn’t go as planned

Reviewed on 2020-07-17T08:52:27

I use this airport quite a lot and most times it’s alright. But I have had bad experiences too that no one cared about when raised. My luggage had been left at a completely different place than advertised so that all passengers had to wait for an hour to find there luggage was somewhere else. Today I got shouted at by someone at the rental car return at around 8.15am. It was a young woman who was meant to help people work returning their vehicles instead she was incredibly rude so that she YELLED at me three times about where I have to go. She pointed at me and continued to shout. It was a very uncomfortable and embarrassing situation for everyone involved.

Best to avoid

Reviewed on 2020-02-18T09:55:52

I am always puzzled when I see that MUC airport gets positive reviews from the "pundits".This airport is atrocious. Its transport links are sadistic. The S Bahn from the airport first visits all the villages in Bavaria before arriving to Munich. The ride is 50 minutes minimum. Everything for sale at the airport is overpriced. I always promise myself never to use this airport again, but in the south of Germany you do not have many alternatives.

I just came home to Ireland through Munich airport. My bag got lost and I had to leave any hope of getting it behind or I would have missed my flight.I told Lufthansa staff of my loss as I had booked hold luggage with them and they tried very hard to locate my baggage. (They didnt lose the bag). I flew home to Ireland without it expecting to never see it again and the next day, I got a call from KEV in Dublin airport to tell me my bag had been found and was being flown to Ireland and KEV had it delivered to my home 2 days later I thank all those people who made this happen. It was the ultimate in customer service.

We travelled as a family of 4 +…

Reviewed on 2020-01-22T05:12:46

We travelled as a family of 4 + Grandma, to Munich, for a few days then a ski week early January 2019.For an airport that was voted “Best in the World” not long ago with their Terminal 2, the other “ugly duckling” Terminal 1 is absolute chaos! Ridiculous queues due to insufficient staff it seems, no one to attend on arrival if any issues arise from the modern equipment docs scanners (which often broke down) and extremely slow customs. Took us 30mins of queues! Kids & grandma were tired from 15hr flight... Upon return 2 weeks later to T1 to leave GER, same chaotic scenes, not enough staff, security checks were very slow and painful, removing shoes in some cases. Passport control a disaster, only 2 officers on duty with 2 large flights leaving at same time!!!! Queues of 20-30mins again meant we did not get time (out of 2.5hrs allowed) to sit or shop Duty Free??. No-one has attending the EU “express” queue and when asked why? A very young lady at passport control, she looked panicked and simply said: “my colleague is not there today!!!” That was not what you want to hear from the world famous German efficiency! Circulation in the T1 is ridiculous, maybe a BIG overhaul of T1 is required with a new management team of the experience which is currently horrible, as this is Munich’s Hello and Goodbye gate to the world! Very disappointed indeed...

The Worst Airport in the World

Reviewed on 2019-12-30T15:20:24

This was the worst airport experience I've ever had in my life, and that's including LaGuardia.I'd give this place no stars if I could. We were flying through Munich on December 23rd, admittedly a busy travel day, but we had a 2.5 hour layover and still almost missed our flight. First of all, the immigration and customs area was a complete disaster. There was NO ONE there directing traffic or helping people with tight connections or issues with the automated machines. As an adult with no kids, I stood in line (as instructed by the overhead announcer) for the electronic system to scan my passport and reach an officer. Waited 20 minutes, only to have the machine not accept me for reasons I never figured out. There was no one there to help and my partner was already through, so I had no choice but to go and wait in the much larger, much less organized general line for 40 MORE minutes. The German agents were critically slow and totally uncaring about people panicking all around me that their flights were leaving in 30, 20, and even 10 minutes. There was no help. When I FINALLY got through customs and back to my partner, I learned that I'd been flagged for a random security check going into the terminal, again separating the two of us. This line was also huge, slow, and full of angry people terrified of missing their flights. They were literally feet away from their gates, in full view of their departure, but people were getting left behind because the German TSA equivalent was so slow, so disorganized, and asking so many stupid questions (they made us take chocolate and books out of our bags, which obviously no one was ready for. Why? No idea). Since there was LITERALLY NO ONE helping the desperate people get through, I started letting people go in front of me (because my flight was slightly less urgent than theirs) and then got full-on cussed out by an angry passenger who thought I was letting people cut him. None of this should have happened. There should have been people guiding the traffic, or at the VERY LEAST containing aggressive and potentially violent confrontations. I should not have had to step in and act so that people would not miss their flights that were right there, and I should not have had to deal, by myself, with a screaming man advancing on me with clearly angry intent. There should have been extra security or personnel, trained for the high-travel day. There should have been organization and management, not just the chaos of frantic crowds. We ended up sprinting to our gate, barely making it onto the plane, and totally shaken to the core, not to mention heartbroken for the poor, frustrated souls who got stuck in that line and left in Germany the day before Christmas when they should, by all rights, have made their connections. If I can help it, I will never fly through Munich Airport again. I recommend if you can you do the same.

They're theives!!

Reviewed on 2019-11-12T11:15:29

To whoever reading this, my mother and I travel a lot back and forth for years. This is the first time that I have felt violated with security in an airport. It is corrupted! My mom, for years, travels with some of her heirlooms/jewelry. There has never been an issue. This is the first time we have been victimized with theft. There are security cameras everywhere and when I reported the incident requesting footage, there was no sign of help. TRAVELS be aware. I used to work in a little retail store, where they'd check every employee before they left the store in case they have stolen something. They need that process here! I strongly suggest that airport personel get checked too daily. The jewelry stolen from my HANDICAPPED mother, were in her posession for years and they are irreplaceable. She suffers from PTSD and they used her ailments as a distraction. Never has my mother had to take off her knee brace through security. This time as they made her do so, they distracted her with that and stole her jewelry from her carry on. I am a college student studying psychology and to see a handicapped women, being my mother, getting robbed blinded, is so heart breaking. Instead of staff stealing, they should just ask for handouts instead. There would be more honor in that. To all who worked on 07/11/19 at check point security.
