openSUSE keeps earning my trust!

I’ve been a Linux user since the early 2000s, coming from Debian-based distros before settling on openSUSE, and today it continues to be my reference system. Recent experience (end of 2025, beginning of 2026) confirms why: Tumbleweed with the LTS kernel is remarkably solid, even while staying modern. GNOME 49.2 on Wayland has been smooth and reliable, while Xfce on X11 remains an excellent fallback for stability and performance. Having both options well integrated is a real strength. Package and system management are consistently excellent, from hardware handling to security (UEFI, kernel options, snapshots). Tools like zypper, Snapper, and YaST still make complex tasks feel controlled rather than fragile. What surprised me positively is how comfortable openSUSE feels even for new workflows: configuring Ollama locally, integrating AI tools, and even using ChatGPT as daily technical assistance fits naturally into the system without friction. openSUSE strikes a rare balance: powerful enough for advanced users, yet welcoming and predictable. It doesn’t chase hype, it delivers reliability. The fifth star is well deserved.

Cutting edge, Beautiful themes, Reliable

openSUSE Tumbleweed is cutting edge Linux that is great for everyday use as a desktop. Dropbox, Megasync, VLC, Google Chrome, Libre Office all work great. Even though it is cutting edge I use it for my working laptop with no problems. I use Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma which has the most options for beautiful themes that I have found in any Linux distro. I also have used openSUSE Tumbleweed with the Gnome desktop and it also works flawlessly. I have found the openSUSE install to be the very best in finding other Linux systems and creating a reliable multiboot system.

Wayland is badly supported. Good website.

Wayland is badly supported. Additionally, some packages available in Fedora are not for SUSE. However, other than that, OpenSUSE is incredible, especially because of YaST. The website is intuitive and quick to load. It supports Dark Reader.
