I joined Shapeshift wanting to exchange fiat into crypto. It was all very straightforward and the website looked impressive.
Sorting their KYC requirements were a little intrusive and became annoying as they demanded a lot to satisfy them.
After giving them copies of Passport, Driving licence & utility bill, they then wanted videos with me holding Passport, holding Licence, holding utility bill, then turning my head and saying words. After I sent them everything they came back to me and said they required more information.
I am concerned that they now have everything they need to clone my identity several times over.
I am even more concerned now because I decided to buy some BTC from them. All very easy to set up and the fastest way and without commission was to send them fiat via Instant Bank Transfer.
The second I pressed send my bank acknowledged that BANX, who shapeshift use to do the transfer, received my funds instantaneously.
That was on 1st May 2021, It is now 4th May 2021, The balance of my BTC wallet I linked to shapeshift is still 0.000000 BTC,
The first few emails I sent to them were ignored, 10 hours later I was told that they did not receive my transfer.
I sent them a copy of the transaction showing the account number and sort code where the funds were instantaneously transferred.
All the details were correct. The funds had been deposited, instantaneously into the account that they had given me.
What makes the situation worse is their smarmy emails they send now and again in response to may emails asking them where my funds have gone. I say now and again because they ignore most of my emails.
I have now had to report them to my banks fraud department and also Metropolitan Police, Action Fraud. They are now investigating BANX and Shapeshift for the theft of my funds.
Now I’m worried that they have so much of my personal information they could clone my identity without any problems.
My recommendation about Shapeshift is:
DO NOT USE SHAPESHIFT,
DO NOT SEND YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS to satisfy their KYC.

Very poor, unqualified customer support. Endless, scripted, auto generated support responses.Very poor app function, as well as Inadequate app support.
Investors would be foolish to trust their investments with this substandard platform.
Future investors should head this warning before trusting their Capital with Shapeshift.

DO NOT USE THIS EXCHANGE. They stole $1000 worth of Bitcoin from me. I transferred it into a new account and then realized that I couldn't buy Ripple.When I tried to send my Bitcoin out of my account it kept giving me error messages on mobile and website. Once I reached tech support they instructed me what to do and this process erased my Bitcoin and it vanished with no record of the transaction. After I reached tech support with this revelation, they have ignored my emails. It's pure thievery and I hope the US and Swiss regulators shut it down. AWFUL SERVICE DONT USE. Highly unethical.

they swapped me BTC for BCH. they did not execute the transaction and after 3 days when it did not gothru and BCH went down significantly they generated a brand new transaction and sent me the BCH then. No matter how hard you try to reach them they are NO HELP and just a scam. if i would have been a winner there is no doubt the transaction would have gone thru as agreed. STAY AWAY!!!

Trash trash trash. The desktop and mobile experiences are completely different, fees are incredibly high (was trying to exchange 44 usd in ETH for RUNE and they wanted to charge 58 dollars in fees!)Got whittled down to 37 usd by the time I wised up and withdrew. Seems this company takes complete advantage of people not wanting to go through KYC practices.

ShapeShift takes a different business model than other exchanges focusing on ease of use,security and anonymity.
I have a very good experience with them so far, I have been using the platform for over 3 years now.
I am writing this review for those who are complete beginners in the field of cryptocurrencies. Unfortunately, I find that most bad reviews come from lack from experience and beginner mistakes.
So make things clear!
- If you deposit a small amount to the platform, the fee will be high compared to the money paid, because here are the fees is high between blockchains nowadays due to the high usage.
Assume that you are transferring money abroad to a completely different system, it will also transfer / exchange for a high fee.
- Whoever writes is a scam because he/she copied the address and next time it showed a different address. Here is my message: Change addresses are important for user privacy. The blockchain is viewable by anyone with an Internet connection. To preserve some degree of anonymity, features like change addresses are needed, otherwise everyone would easily know everyone else’s entire financial history, which is something most people don’t want.
Key takeaways: First of all, READ, try to understand and gather information from the experienced ones. Educate yourself before you buy! This is really important!!!
Never invest in something you have absolutely no idea about!

Boy do I wish I saw this page before the headache I'm going though. Got a new Keepkey and was excited to put my coins in my wallet.Created an account, Updated my Keepkey, wrote down all my pasword and phrase info and boom. I'm up and running. Transferred 2 different coins into the wallet and went out for a round of golf. I came back and went to log into shapeshift and it says I have an invalid password? Ok, so I grab my notebook and made sure I entered it right, nothing. OK I'll just reset my password. Confirmed password reset. Enter new password 2 second later, Invalid password. I cannot count how many times I've tried resetting my password. Nothing. I can log into the help center and the mobile app with the same password but not on the actual website. I've sent multiple messages to customer support (WHAT A JOKE) with no reply (all of them are still open). This company needs to be shut down ASAP. ITS A BIG SCAM. As far as I'm concerned they stole my coins. I'll be reaching out to the Better Business Bureau. Stay clear of this garbage platform
