Took 3 years to close bank account

I followed all instructions for closing my bank account. It has already taken three years of correspondance and is still not closed.CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNTIN PERSON BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE COUNTRY, OTHERWISE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE. The employees at the bank branch do not take action on letters. They do not reply to emails. I cannot access my online banking despite multiple attempts to be re-sent the 'code secret'. they do not send the code by text, despite saying they will within a day! Why is in not instantaneous?! What aren't these things automated? A few times they sent to code secret to my old address in Paris. I don't live in this country anymore. I have phoned the customer complaints line over 5 times. Sometimes they just hang up on me. When I do get through they tell me my account advisor from my bank will get back to me. This doesn't happen. I never hear from them. Same thing when I spoke to someone on twitter (as a last resort). They said they would investigate internally and someone from the branch would get back to me. In the meantime, they are taking 10 Euros a month from my account, just for having an account!! I can't believe it. They give ZERO f**ks about their customers. They steal your money. They don't do their jobs and close the account when requested. I shouldn't still be stressing about closing an account over 3 years after I left the country.

Societe Generale is by far the worst…

Societe Generale is by far the worst banking experience I have had in France (and the bar is low).I am a client in the Paris 13 ave. d'Italie branch with J. Mercier as my conseiller. He repeatedly loses documents, does not reply to emails, lettres recommendees, phone calls. My account was locked for months for not being "en norm" and, when I submitted the documents he sent me he couldn't t explain why they were continuously being rejected (apparently because my Swiss work contract didn't have my metier on it...). Then when finally it was "regle" he "forgot" to click a button to give me access to my account on line. Five months later I was able to get access to my 2000 euros in the account. Finally fed up, I sent him a lettre recommendee with AR to close the account. No response for a month. I sent him a message in the app and he told me he had "repeatedly tried to reach me by phone"-- bizarre since Orange has no record of this. And no attempts to write to me or contact me otherwise. I asked repeatedly to speak to la direction and was refused. The only way to get SG to respond is to complain on social media-- Facebook, Twitter, etc. and publicly shame-- then they contact you within an hour. Overall, it has been a nightmare and I cannot even get my accounts closed!!! Stay far, far away and certainly from the Paris 13 branch.

I have lived in France between 2004 and 2011 (banking with Boursorama), now living in Germany (banking with BNP Consorsbank).I still have my old account with the SoGe due to some investments to PEA. I wanted to use this account again, it took me 1,5 months to establish the espace client, but impossible to do SEPA transfer, after numerous and numerous calls and messages with my SoGe advisor and ligne technique - the reason is that non-residents cannot make virements via espace client. This was never communicated and is nowhere documented!!!! SoGe is not a bank, this a fonction publique frozen in the 80-ies. I have seen a few banks in the US (MBA studies), East Europe and Germany (work) - all of them were better by a class. At SoGe you cannot dowload a SEPA transfer form, the advisor must send it to you, you cannot fill it out online, but in handwriting. At SoGe no one could speak English which I don't mind with a good command of French, but again SoGe is a fonction publique full of fonctionnaires. For expats, my advice is to avoid this bank by miles. To be fair, the SoGe espace client is well structured and ergonomic, but again you cannot see statements and transactions older than 3 months, in my Czech bank Airbank I can go years and years back...

Bank charged me by mistake already 3 months in a row and every time I need to ask them to return my money.It is just insane! Depuis trois mois maintenant, on me fait payer Sobrio par erreur et je dois à chaque fois prendre contact pour récupérer mon argent. Quelqu'un peut-il s'occuper de ce problème une fois pour toutes ?

The branch near Les Halles ( Tours ) What a shame that agents barely speak English to the client accept an old sweet lady reception.I was there to open an account with an agent name BOUKOU PEMBA CORINE, after I gave all my files, she told me that I have to wait 3-4 days to know if my account will be approved or not but I’ve been waiting for more than a week and nobody contacted me back, so I called and asked what’s going on? The agent BOUKOU PEMBA CORINE said, my files wasn’t approved! Then I asked her what happened and what can I do more? In order to open an account? She doesn’t answer me right away, she said that she’s busy right now and she’ll call me back and of course she’s totally disappeared! I was like oh my god! The agent ignored me! If I didn’t call to find out I’ll never know what the hell is going on! Nobody was going to contact me back! What kind of agent or bank do this to the clients? It’s a joke? Guys, If you want the best banking service go to SOCIETE GENERALE ??
