Avoid at all costs

We engaged NuSapce back in 2020 regarding a kitchen extension and loft conversion. I was pregnant at the time, and we wanted to create more space for the upcoming arrival of our daughter. The sales representative of NuSpace ensured us that NuSpace had lots of experience with these kinds of projects, and that the time frame, whilst ambitious, was something they could manage. We were asked to pay a 10% non-refundable deposit prior to working with the in-house architect on drawings and the planning permission process. The drawings NuSpace produced and the advice we were given was not compliant with local planning regulations and policies - something NuSpace should have known if they had looked into these. Subsequently our planning application was refused in October 2020. We tried to work with NuSpace on remediated plans which would illustrate our design and were in line with building regulations. However as of today (6 months later) we still haven’t received anything. We tried to enter conversations with NuSpace multiple times. Sadly the owner spends most of his time in the Caribbean and is hardly available for meetings or phone calls (apparently NuSpace’s receptionist doesn’t have his phone number either). When we spoke to him he was arrogant, dismissive and belittling and didn’t seem to understand the stress and anxiety this process cause during my pregnancy. We filed a complaint to the Architectural Registration Board, who are currently investigating their professional conduct and diligence. When we made an offer to NuSpace to go our separate ways and pay them an above market architect's fee for their architectural services rendered, the owner called my husband “childish” and “silly”. The entire experience with NuSapce has been unprofessional and unpleasant from the outset. We still don’t know how to solve the issue as NuSpace is not continuing to work on our project and after paying them so much money we cannot engage with a better company. Sadly we might have to take legal action, which only creates more stress and costs. Please think twice before engaging with this company. They simply don’t offer a good service.

Great job Radu!

Reviewed on 2021-03-23T17:13:56

I am very happy with all the work that Radu has done for me. He was assigned as the contactor from Nuspace to construct my hip to gable loft conversion.Radu was very collaborative from the off with everything he was doing on the conversion and was very efficient at getting the construction done. Along the way he consulted with me so I knew of any complications which may arise on the build and guided me through what he was doing and why. He made suggestions as to how we might improve the project and was happy to go out of his way to make it as good as it could be at his own additional expense and time. I was very happy with that approach and that he was passionate about the project and wanted the best outcome for me as opposed to just getting the job done. The subcontractors and team he used were equally friendly and helpful and again on the whole they offered additional detail to the project without additional cost. I felt comfortable working with Radu he did an excellent job in all aspects of the work. I asked him to finish off additional bits and he did this without fuss or charging extra to make sure the job was done as well as I wanted. As for the Nuspace representatives I didn’t have much to do with them after the initial consultation. I saw the PM three times in total but were happy to leave Radu alone to do the project. I would be very happy to use Radu for other projects I may have in the future and would keenly recommend using him; efficient, trustworthy and collaborative. Not sure if I would use Nuspace again though.

Terrible experience with Nuspace

Reviewed on 2021-02-22T22:33:01

Terrible experience with Nuspace, would not recommend them at all. Be warned. I now have a roof which is leaking in multiple places and I have structural cracks in the loft ceiling.Nuspace have done nothing to help rectify the issues, only made empty promises. The builder has disappeared and I am left with a wreck of a property.

DO NOT USE NU-SPACE.

Reviewed on 2020-10-26T12:39:30

DO NOT USE NU-SPACE. The other reviews really echo our experience of them. I used Nuspace to build a single storey extension (shell only)which should only have taken about 6 weeks to build. The sales man Dale, was excellent but as soon as i gave my deposit it all went very badly wrong . Apart from the sales man, EVERYONE from Nuspace seemed to think it was ok to over charge in the thousands and take way too long to do the build and get anything sorted. Roberto took 3 weeks to organise the 1st meeting and was useless. Even when you talk to the "management " you still don't get anywhere as they don't have a clue. Nicola would just forget that I've been contacting her twice a day. Awful company . Had to sack them a couple of weeks into the build (7 weeks into contract). They give builders a bad name . My worry is people with less building experience than myself might think its normal to pay thousands more .

Avoid Nuspace at all costs.

We had a loft conversion and reconfigurations to our kitchen with underfloor heating in 2017.Initially Nuspace appeared professional and polite so we chose to go ahead with them. Unfortunately this has turned out to be a 3 year nightmare with problems with every bit of work they did. I’ll start with the kitchen. From the outset there were problems with the flooring. The grouting kept lifting and the floor tiles were regrouted 3 times but it didn’t solve the problem. Nuspace told us it was not their problem and must be our sewage system leaking. They informed us the subcontractors they had used had left the country and it was no longer anything to do with them. We had independent damp surveys to attempt to locate the problem but by then it was so extensive we had to go through our insurance as the floor tiles had lifted completely and damp was saturating our walls. Nuspace refused to acknowledge us and did not answer emails during this period of time. We had to move in to rented accommodation for 6 months while the kitchen and floor was ripped out to find the leak. They found that the none of the plumbing piping had been done properly and the damp proof membrane had been removed. All due to appalling workmanship. The catalogue of problems are too extensive to list and our insurance company couldn’t believe it. Unfortunately the problems extend to the roof and loft conversion which started off as a small damp patch we didn’t notice until water was pouring down the walls. Again Nuspace refused to take any responsibility or accountability. Nicola and Roberto deserve a special mention as being completely dismissive and unhelpful and then totally ignoring us after taking our money. In essence if you want good workmanship with an ethical reliable company DO NOT USE NUSPACE. We have insurance proof and photographs to support everything in this post. There is nothing we can do except prevent others going through the stress and upheaval we have.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Reviewed on 2019-01-24T10:40:29

We contracted Nuspace to build a rear extension after seeing many reviews. The initial meeting with Mark left a good impression as he promised outstanding service with no hassle.Their marketing and website looks impressive, promising exceptional build quality and customer service but the reality is different. The first prebuild meeting was with the Foreman, Kavon Johnson and the Nuspace Project manager, Roberto Cortina. Roberto came to the meeting thinking we were having a loft conversion! Not a great start. I could write pages regarding the incompetence and appalling service we encountered with Nuspace but I am going to summarise. The work commenced in September 2017 and from the very first day we had issues with the workers not turning up some days, some days only one person would turn up and this continued throughout the whole build process. I contacted Nuspace to complain and they simply informed me that ‘time was not of the essence’. We were given a timescale of 12 weeks but the project was not completed till February 2018. We were charged an extortionate amount of money by Nuspace for a build over agreement with Thames Water as there was some drainage running under the extension area. This work took no more than 3-4 days but they charged us the maximun amount they could (15%) under the contract. The project manager, Roberto, was supposed to manage the project but we felt let down by his lack of presence and managing. We were the ones pointing out all the errors in the build and highlighting any issues that arose. We were left at the mercy of the contractor, Kavon Johnson, who was very inconsiderate at times ( left us with no heating and no working temporary kitchen for months ). We had paid for interior decoration to be carried out and this took forever to complete. The delays in the build and decorating meant that we had to pay for storage for our kitchen which had been ready for weeks to install. Once the kitchen was installed the contractor, Kavon, had still not completed the decoration as the work was not finished to a good standard and they needed to return several times to complete the job and we now had to have messy work again with a brand new kitchen. Eventually, once the work was complete, it took approximately 9 months to issue the completion certificate and this took months of emails, telephone calls and complaints to the manager, Nicola Chappell. She would speak to us, acknowledge emails and then simply forget about us till we complained again. These are just a few of the numerous issues we had with Nuspace and we certainly will not be using them again or recommending them. In fact, they lost out on our repeat business as we went elsewhere for our loft conversion, thankfully. Please note that with Nuspace you will be at the mercy of sub-contractors who are not vetted properly, will try to do the job using the cheapest possible materials and there are a number of hidden project costs. The customer service was absolutely dreadful and if things go wrong Nuspace are not helpful at all and appear to be invisible. I believe it is when things go wrong that the true nature of a company comes out.
