What does Allied Newspapers Limited do?
Allied Newspapers Limited was officially set up in 1939 by the Strickland family following the birth of its masthead the Times of Malta in 1935.
Originally home to Malta's leading English language newspapers the Times of Malta and the Sunday Times of Malta, both of which are still going strong, the company has since then diversified into a wider media remit.
As a media organisation, Times of Malta (as it is known today) has moved towards that of providing breaking news thus becoming a medium that delivers information rather than simply recording it. The company achieves this through various means, from its mastheads, to its leading news website www.timesofmalta.com (the most followed local website and the eighth most used website in Malta, following the likes of Google, Facebook and YouTube), to offering premium content to subscribers across various media platforms, to its in-house magazines such as PINK, E&D, and Child, to the various newspaper supplements that appear throughout the year, to its venture into television with the TV programme #TIMES talk on state-television channel TVM, to the creation of events with its first-ever fashion show in November 2013.
Allied Newspapers Limited also boasts of an impressive online archive, launched in 1999. The archive facility has allowed Times of Malta to save all previous editions for posterity. The archive boasts a fully text searchable facility which has been upgraded to its third version.
The company employs 125 full-time employees supporting its Finance, Editorial, Design, Sales, HR, IT, and Marketing departments.
