I wake up every day and do one challenge and can't imagine a better way to start the day.
So much of my daily work life is software management or chasing ghosts in the machine(s).It is such a treat to have a pure coding experience once a day.
And I love comparing my answers to to the others. Such an amazing (and educational) experience to see how different brains approach the same problem.read more
Technical Assessment Timer Clarity

Technical Assessment Timer Clarity
The Candidate Guide and introductory pages for an assessment are not clear about when the timer starts. There are several pages that should be read carefully without pressure. Big, bold "Timer not started yet" marquees should be present on those pages.
Copy and paste penalties are also unclear. Is copying within the code already typed allowed? How about from the instructions to the code? Can written code be copied from the code window and pasted to an external source?
Finally, haven't work with many of the languages, but challenges start with the statement "output logs will appear here" Yet, there is no way to log in C# without Console.WriteLine which must be removed before submitting. There should be a way to include logging that can remain in the final solution (without being commented either).read more

Mismatched Assessment, Incorrect Assessment, Alienating Assessment,Computer Science biased Assessment
Reviewed on 2021-01-16T11:21:47
Situations: I applied for a reactjs, php, mysql, wp freelance projects but I found myself seating fora 4 hours medium to hard 8 questions of which not even 1 was on what I am doing.
When you give someone an assessment there should be a reason:
1. If a candidate has applied for a job say php or mysql then assess that individual on php or mysql.
2. If everything is biased towards computer science algorithms and data structures and problem solving and maths then tell candidates before hand that they are required to know these and they need to prepare for them before they take an assessment. We are working on web development or development and believe me we do not reinvent algorithms unless there is a good reason. We have plenty plus tried and tested algorithms and we always use less than 10% of what is available. For example, developers use CMS, templets, boiler plates, tried and tested solutions modules and to a lesser extent they re do underlying core modules which require new designs or performance tunning.
3. Are you guys aware that universities have IT and CS as seperate modules and why?
I do not say tha CS stuff is useless and irrelevant but my point has always been and is test correctly and communicate correctly and do not alienate candidates as a way to force them to subscribe to your premium packages.
If you dispute what I am saying call and talk to me. The last time I was spending lots of hours on algorithm, data structures and general problem solving was when I was on my 3rd year university. But the last years and today I am multiple projects for different companies and clients and when I need to freelance for you then why am I subjected to the staff I have forgoten and I am not working on currently.read more
Great library of algorithms

I really appreciated Coderbyte Premium's large variety of "challenges", the review videos, and the ability to see other users' solutions. They all helped me refresh my memory of algorithms, and the experience was addictively enjoyable.
I encourage users to practice using the web browser for all editing and testing. My pre-assessment practice, to use a laptop editor and then copy/paste the code into the browser, resulted in a surprising and disturbing "do not copy/paste" warning during the assessment test. Being assigned two "matrix"-oriented challenges during the assessment made it especially tempting to copy/paste! Also, the web app did not capture the "command-S" keystrokes, which I instinctively entered while updating my solution.
Very nice product!read more
