Very good and easy to use App. Regular communication and updates at a level easy to understand for newcomers.Agents on the phone full of advice and patience. I’d recommend even though there might be cheaper competitors HL worth that little extra fee.read more

I’m new to buying shares and chose H L because they don’t charge a monthly fee. The account was easy to set up and transfers are simple too.Dropped one star as the website takes a little time to work out how to go about purchasing shares when the market is closed, as that’s when I want to do business not when I’m working. Now I’ve mastered the system it’s ok but for some it may be a problemread more

Good platform but now starting to loose the edge with emerging competition

Positives
-App has good interface and shows a good overview of the portfolio
-Customer support is quick to respond and will explain basics to new users
-Wide range of Stocks,Fund, Indexes and bonds
-Good for new investors
-For the 3 years I have used it there has never been any downtime I can recall
Cons
-Sometimes Limit orders and fund orders take time to place. Often missing a low entry price.
-Fees and trading prices are too high. Cost 11.95 for a trade. Which granted is lowest compared to mainstream competition. It does reduce is you place many trades but that unlikely for new investors or ones who just want to buy and hold. New platforms are coming out with no commission (Free trade, trading212, etoro, etc) Other platforms such as X-O.co.uk have a flat rate fee of 5.95. Fee are also higher for overseas stock buying. Fund charges are reasonable. Would be good if they could lower their trading fees further
-App does have connection issues sometimes. In the 3 years the website has always been available.
-Website and App done have the same functionality. App is better for checking the overall account but cannot do some website functions such as monthly savings/deposits.
Overall HL is a decent platform. They are miles head of the traditional competition of banks and other large investing platforms were they have fees for just having an account or inactivity fees. To stay ahead they need to be competing with the more newer competition which are largely commission free. I hope HL continue to stay ahead of the curve.read more

I started using Hargreaves Lansdown very recently for a Stocks & Shares ISA and as a platform itcouldn't be easier to start up or much simpler to use.
Informative supporting materials on site and through articles, easy access via both web and app. Helpful alert system that can be set-up for more reactive trading.
Definitely recommended.read more
