To date I have completed 12 home exchanges, and scheduled 9 more. I am thrilled with each experience.I live 5 miles away from the beach in Southern California in a normal neighborhood with a shared pool. I was surprised at how many requests I received and exchanges I was able to make. I learn something new from each exchange and I love "living like a local" wherever we go. I find hotels very impersonal and love the space to spread out with home exchanging. The process is easy, not too technical. With some planning you can go anywhere, for instance I do "non-simultaneous" exchanges where a family from a ski area stays at my house in the summer when I am away and then I stay at their home during ski season. This year we even stayed in Lahaina, Maui in a 2 bedroom Condo for Guest Points. Guest points are a way to have a 3-way exchange. I paid guest points to a Canadian who owns a home in Maui but due to Covid could not use her second residence. Now she has points to use somewhere that is available. While I was in Maui, a family from Oregon stayed at my home to check out local colleges. BRILLIANT! Home Exchange as an app and website works great for me. They do a great job of vetting people. Thus far no bad experiences or even close. The response team is helpful and even helped me find a replacement vacation when my Seattle exchange had to cancel. The replacement was in an even better location.

We had great hopes of Home Exchange, having experienced several other exchange sites.
Unfortunately,for two "oldies" like us (in our 50s/60s,travel with children and grandchildren), the lack of customer care was a deal-breaker. Ongoing system glitches, that prevented our exchanges from completing,were never addressed or apologised for (that's just not good people, we really appreciate being treated like humans...I know, I know, we're old-fashioned that way!). And each issue was passed between several different people on the same level, e.g., one customer service person receives a message and responds - if the customer replies when the issue is unresolved, a whole new person answers the email, unfamiliar with the customer's situation, and relying on the most sparse of notes from just a few minutes prior.
Many trite, belittling, dismissive and passive-aggressive responses later (not me, I swear - but by this time, the whole family was joining in stressed out hair-tearing) with nothing being addressed, the customer is passed onto yet another person.
We persisted, but we also have lives to live, and cannot waste any more precious life on this strange and frustrating setup.
A note that they are also far more expensive on points swaps than any other website.
Although we have never received the service they promised (i.e.,never completed an exchange because of ongoing system errors their end), they have happily told me that I'm out of the refund period, so they refuse to reimburse the membership fee.
Life is short, don't waste in frustrating hours with Home Exchange.
Am so sad to give any company only one star, but we really had a horrendous experience with no humanity, apology, understanding or even simple recompense offered.
Home Exchange needs to up their customer care.
Update: fellow travellers, please heed the response given by Home Exchange - neatly demonstrating each of the points I have made here. All defense - no apology nor curiousity and not a shred of empathy to be had... belittled and dismissed I stand. Ah well, God bless them all

We had already a few exchanges worldwide and we really enjoyed it. We spend a very nice time and we love to get to know in this way foreign countries and of course the people living there.It is a much closer experience than travelling the normal way.
