Slow is an understatement for this product...

Reviewed on 2021-05-19T11:24:48

I just signed up to idrive last week based on the great reviews from various online magazines, but I am wondering how they get their 'Super fast speed' and 'reliable' from ? because I am not getting anything even near it. I have Hyperoptic's 900Mb package, so its 900upload and 900 download, have been using Microsoft's Onedrive, always super fast but its limited to 1TB so I decided to move up, saw the reviews for idrive, 5TB for about the same price plus first year costing pennies, can't go wrong on that I thought. Well, first day, upload 120GB of data, this took almost two days, slow can't describe the speed, next day uploaded another 70GB and this took 29hrs, wait, may it is my PC causing the slow speed, try my laptop, same if not worse, speedtest and fast.com both showed my speed is 850/810Mb up and down, tested against Onedrive and 70GB of files took around two hours to upload and download, and this is only running at half the speed as I don't think Microsoft had enough bandwidth to cope. So I start searching for reviews and came across trustpilot, oh boy , I knew right away I made a mistake. The number of people posting about slow speed showed this can't be a one off, and the most recent ones also said they have files deleted without their knowledge, ok, once I read those I removed idrive, my data is far more important than saving a few bucks or gaining more capacity. My main concerns with this product is. 1. This speed problem seem to have been around forever, yet still no fix ? As a company if we have a few customers telling us something is not working, we be on it like a rocket, so it seem like the company is either incapable or it just don't care. 2. The replies from idrive here actually made me laugh, someone posted to say the software is slow and customer service is useless, they are asked to contact publicrelations at idrive ? You gotta be kidding me, either it is one of those auto reply, or the person replying don't even work for the company and just posting generic replies, what do public relation has to do with a customer with technical or support issues ? So my search a better online storage goes on, but one thing for sure, I won't be using this and I will warn my friends and family to stay away too, there is nothing more dangerous than to think you have a backup copy somewhere in the cloud only to find you don't, as this is normally the last place you look for a final copy because your computer died and you lost all the files on your hard drive. I count myself lucky but still wasted $8.

Awful buggy and extremely slow - do not trust your data with this company

Reviewed on 2021-05-15T07:41:01

I have no idea if the people giving iDrive great reviews on various websites and articles have actually used the software,I would assume not. The system is extremely slow and buggy and has got progressively worse over the 12 months I have used it. On a 100mb leased line with a very fast SSD server on the rare occasion it does upload properly it is so slow it is barely usable. Sitting on 'preparing file list' for hours and hours with nothing happening is a common occurrence. I also test restoring data from the various backup strategies I have in place. When trying to restore a small part of our dataset (around 3GB) the system just was unable to do it, taking so long I had to give up. I would be terrified of relying on iDrive to restore our 500GB / 1 million file dataset in an actual disaster recovery scenario. I just do not believe it would work therefore it is completely pointless using it. The support people reply quickly but the software and service is flawed. Do not trust your data with this company. I have since moved to Acronis Cloud Protect, backed up everything straight away, fast speed, restore test passed with no issues.

Simply put, don't buy into iDrive.

Reviewed on 2021-05-14T14:35:44

Simply put, don't buy into iDrive. After heavy research, we chose iDrive based on stellar reviews from PCMagazine.com,customer "reviews" and others. Price was right, services offered sounded great. Got all our computers running the software and that's when the problems started. Random files would auto delete without warning and end up in the Trash - Deleted sync file(s) folder located on the iDrive.com online management dashboard. To make matters worse, we've contacted costumer support no less than 50 times in the last 5 months to try and resolve the issue (Email, Chat, Phone, Screen share etc). Other than this MAJOR glitch, the program works wonderfully. It auto syncs across all our company computers across the country. Files randomly being deleted is a complete failure of data security, so no matter how great the rest of the service is, it's 0 Stars until this is fixed. Needless to say, my team has lost all faith and confidence in this product. We are actively looking to replace this service. Trust the negative reviews. Look elsewhere for this service. No doubt their will be a response below saying to contact support and they will be happy to fix this issue. We've been assured many times over the months that this issue was being escalated. We are still experiencing daily auto deletes that leave us with missing critical files that must be restored from the Trash - Deleted sync file(s) folder on idrive.com. We are done. Looking for a full refund and into possible grounds for a class action lawsuit to recover loss and damages.

idrive.com is not connectable

Reviewed on 2021-05-12T12:36:22

The daily backup always backed up the same number of files regardless of how many were created/deleted. Recently it has been reporting an 'intermittent internet connection'[which there **hasn't** been] and failing. All idrive.com sites are unreachable and have been so since 5th May 2021. Quickly loosing trust......

Dont Trust the GOOD Reviews

Reviewed on 2021-05-10T10:31:14

Was using Idrive for years on recommendations for various sources PCMag and reviews...Now I'm on the belief that the reviews are all paid for as the product does not function as stated or advertised. Wish I'd performed an end to end test backup/restore consistantly prior to purchase as its completely unreliable.

Very dissatisfied

Reviewed on 2021-05-08T07:02:23

I started with the free version, and that seemed to work OK. Switched to discount plan about a year ago. Here is a list of problems: 1. Support never responds to website requests for support. 2. Error messages are nebulous. For example: a. "Failed to continue the Backup operation. Reason: There are no files to backup]" If there are no files to back up, why is that a failure? b. Some files could not be backed up because of an unexpected error". However, the unexpected error is never explained. How is the user to know which files encountered unexpected errors? 3. I would think that when I have to reboot during a backup, instead of getting an error that the backup failed, there would be a continuation from where the backup left off, but I have never seen anything like that. Instead, the backup starts again from the beginning. 4. Sometimes when I reboot or do an update, instead of my mapped drives being shown in the bottom pane, iDrive changes them to the upper pane without notifying me. I have to uncheck those drives in the upper pane and then close the change box and only then will the mapped drives appear in the bottom pane. 5. In the logs under 'Operation', the mapped drives are not specified. Why not call the backups operations of the mapped drives, "Mapped Drives" 6. Backups are very slow. I have a 1GB down/500MB upload connection, which I have tested with many broadband speed tests, but backing up, for example, 180GB on my mapped drives, can take 2-3 days. I have the throttles set to between 85-100%. My OS is Windows 10 on an ASUS VIVOBook S15 with 20GB RAM ....and now I am told to contact support by someone who apparently did not read item 1 above.

So far, pretty good.

Reviewed on 2021-04-26T17:23:27

I just signed up with iDrive a few days ago, so I don't have the full experience of using them yet,but I can say that I like the price, it was easy to setup on my MacBook Pro, and I like that I can select individual folders and don't have to backup the entire drive if I don't want to, plus I can do it manually or set it to automatic, which is nice. Now for the bad news. The upload speed was SUPER slow. I started backing up 79GB of files on day 1 in the afternoon. At around 3am I finally went to bed with around 20GB uploaded so far. The following day I woke up around 9am to find it had stopped at 50 something GB, so I had to manually continue uploading for the rest of the day to reach the full 79GB. I have not had to restore any files yet, nor have I had to contact support, so I'm hoping there won't be any problems in those areas. Otherwise, so far, I've had a good experience and would recommend them.
