A meaning for our life

Reviewed on 2021-04-01T21:36:27

We have been lending thru Kiva for more than 15 years now. Our initial deposit of $ 1,000 has gone round 11 times, for a total of $ 11,500 lent amount. Default is neglible at $ 35 to date. We have supported more than 220 families world over. Absolutely no issues to date. We tried withdrawal once to check out KIVA, and they were prompt. We cannot describe how happy we feel when we see the 220+ families we supported and the letters we get from them. It has given a meaning for our life.

I've been donating for years

Reviewed on 2021-01-13T04:21:03

I've been donating for years. Now I can give a little each month. Yes, I've had one or two loans not be paid back, but if 25 bucks a month could break me, maybe I shouldn't be giving at all. I've helped put women through college, helped build drinkable water, feed animals to sell and breed. I'm fine with it. Glad to help.

Used Kiva for years, still do.

I've been donating on Kiva for years. Ive always liked the personalisation it has that you can pick where your money goes.I've taken money out multiple times totalling about $300 and although it took quite a while I did get it back, and I've waited longer with peer to peer style lenders. I've lost some money, about $35 over the years at different points, but that risk is there and you are made aware of it before you put your money in. I just see it as a donation. You choose how much you want to put in, you choose if you want to donate to Kiva themselves. If you don't like any risk don't use them. No charity is spending your money exactly how you want, with Kiva you get more say than most.

Good company!

Reviewed on 2020-12-29T21:13:32

I’ve never had a problem with kiva despite all of the other reviews. I’ve been lending money on there for ages. When you agree to loan, it states that there is a risk that you may not get your money repaid, so that’s on you. People moaning about that have clearly not read the fine print. There are other companies but I genuinely like using kiva and I will continue to do so until I have a reason not to!

HORRIBLE way to lend money

Reviewed on 2020-11-02T11:56:03

HORRIBLE way to lend money. Ive lent over $10,000 with Kiva which puts me in the top 1% of lenders on their platform. The first 9 month from the loan origination date was a breeze, was able to track my loans, see estimated repayment dates, and keep taps on delinquencies. The problems start when you begin to redeem/withdrawal funds from the platform...like clockwork they freeze your account delay withdrawals and take 20+ business days replying to EACH email.

It sounds like a good idea

Reviewed on 2020-10-21T14:16:18

It sounds like a good idea, but it's really just another GoFundme. It's a crowdsourcing program,NOT a traditional small business loan program. Once you are set up, you have to beg friends and family to loan money to your project. Once a set number of friends and family loan you money, they send your project out to the "network." It's all or nothing at that point. My project raised over half of the loan amount...money I could have used for my business, but they sent it all back to the people who donated. This should only be a last resort, even then...I would suggest just trying a GoFundMe instead. A LOT less hassle.
