Fire door inspection: Pass or Fail?

The Ligtas policy for fire door safety inspections is not to tell the property owner who is present on the day of inspection the outcome of the inspection. This is due to an idea that owners cannot cope with negative comments about the inspection. I disagree with this, owners have a right to know if the door has passed or failed. This allows time for the owner to put money aside for door adjustments if the door has failed. I was told my door had passed & informed my solicitor of the pass as I was selling. Over a month later, I learned my door had failed on gap safety. My advice to owners is to put money aside for a possible fail. About £300 plus VAT to adjust for gaps, 2025. This is an estimated quote. It is not possible to tell if a buyer would pull out due to incurring costs for adjustments. As inspectors will not inform of door status on the day, it could be that the buyer finds out about the door after completion. The sale could be delayed if a solicitor will not complete before inspection results. I believe owners who are present at inspections should be informed of the results on the day and not have to wait more than four weeks for the result.
