This veterinary assistant program sucks…

Reviewed on 2021-05-25T06:27:50

This veterinary assistant program sucks so bad. Every time I call to speak with a teacher bc I have questions, they cannot answer them. They don't ever follow through with anything. Totally not helpful and I feel like I'm being scammed. A lot of the information I'm reading does not have anything to do with what I'll be doing as well. Not impressed. Pretty disappointmented. It would be nice to get my money back.

I am now undecided after reading reviews

Reviewed on 2021-03-31T17:11:11

I wanted to enroll my granddaughter in Penn Foster next year. She will be in 9th grade. After reading all the reviews I am just not sure I want to go through with it. So many bad reviews, some about the courses and some about how they take you to the money cleaners. Not being able to reach out to anyone for help. That makes me very uncomfortable about signing my name to anything or even getting started with the school. yikes!

Penn Foster is the best!

Reviewed on 2021-03-16T02:45:58

I graduated from Penn Foster High School in 2000. Then it was called ICU High School.I still have the school ID with ICU on it! With that being said I decided to enroll in PF College to earn my Associate degree in Business Management in 2020. Let me tell you it was 20 years too late! But I guess it's never too late. Life happened in those 20 years and I enjoyed a great career in HR and store management without any college. It has always been a dream of mine to be a college graduate and PF is helping me do that. I have nothing but good things to say about PF. Anytime I have contacted the school for assistance they have been exceptional. The student call number and the staff are truly helpful. They take the time to tell you to keep up the good work and make sure you receive the help you need. As of yet I have not needed to contact an instructor but I am sure they would be just as helpful. My courses are challenging and invigorating. I have always loved learning and am a self starter so this is actually enjoyable for me. I do have to caution any prospective students. If you lack self motivation then distance learning may not be for you. I am currently working full time so this allows me to study after work and on weekends. There is no way I would be able to do that at a brick and mortar college. Nor could I afford the ridiculous tuition cost. I truly feel for the students today that have to take on all this debt to get an education in America. They do serve their purpose (some students need the support of professors and guidelines and deadlines at a brick and mortar college). It just doesn't fit my purpose! Also in June of 2020 the U.S. Department of Education ended the distinction between National and Regional accreditation for colleges. If you have or had any concerns if an employer would "accept" a college degree from PF or another college would accept your transfer credits from PF then you should not. I hope to graduate in 2022 and hopefully move on to earn my B.S. Penn Foster thank you for the opportunity to get a great education and pursue my dream!

You'll learn as much as you decide to learn

Reviewed on 2021-03-05T17:15:22

Most people who end up at this point of writing a review are unhappy campers who, for whatever reason, did not enjoy their Penn Foster experience. Surprise! I'm the OTHER kind. Back in the 70s, I took an ICS course (predecessor of Penn Foster) in Building Construction. About 6 six years ago, I took a PF course in Home Remodeling & Repair. I just recently took a course in Landscape Technology, and I'm now enrolled for a Certificate in Property Management. Granted, I'm 67, retired and don't need any certification for anything - just having fun continuing to learn. However, it's still safe to say that you'll get out of these courses whatever you decide to get. If they turn out to be not challenging, don't curse the course. Praise yourself instead. These courses do not put you on the path to Law School or a PhD (well, not directly, anyway), but that's not what they're designed for. They are designed to make Person 'A' more informed and better prepared than Person 'B' in the workforce and society in general. For comparison: If you graduated high school, you have already been exposed to this level of reading and learning. The textbooks involved are all from known educational publishers. You can find most of them on Amazon and see how thorough they are. Penn Foster is a fine group of folks. Now, if some people say "they came after me with collections", well... you really need to read all the fine print, in ANY contract. PF would like to be your educator, but they are not a charity. I have not taken any Associate or Bachelor courses, but they look as good as the rest. However, with Associate or Bachelor degrees, be sure to check ahead with any prospective employers as to their efficacy. There are still plenty of "old-school" (my age) employers around who are mad they had to pay many thousands of dollars for their education, and they'd like to get some satisfaction at least by scoffing at your credentials. Well, I've been an employer, and that's my take on it.

Not the best, but good for the price

Reviewed on 2021-03-04T16:51:58

I used them for multiple programs...first I used them for an associates degree in veterinary technology.I completed 2 of the 4 semesters but at the time (this was in 2012) they offered no assistance in finding places to complete your practicums, and I was unable to progress because of that. That’s fine, vet techs ended up not making money in my area anyway. Despite the lack of help I did like the self-paced program and the ability to make monthly payments. So I went back in 2018 to take their medical billing and coding certificate course. At that point I had significant industry experience under my belt, so the curriculum felt basic to me, but for someone with zero experience it would have been comprehensive. I did complete the program and passed my Certified Professional Coder exam on the first try in 2019. My only “complaint” with that program is that in the middle, they switched from offering the “gold standard” AAPC certification test as a part of the curriculum to a lesser known, most likely cheaper option. That certification will only be a disservice to future graduates, employers don’t ask for it—because of when I enrolled, I was still able to use the AAPC option. At one point I did sign up for their associates degree in healthcare administration, but decided to disenroll since the credits wouldn’t transfer to a bachelors degree. I sent the email as requested, but they still sent me to collections. Overall, I do recommend them for people who are looking for cheap education. However I STRONGLY caution that if self paced distance learning isn’t your thing, don’t do it.
