Turns down customers with appointments

I recently had bought a car and was thinking of who to trust to have it in good shape. I don't know the answer yet,but I know who not to rely on: Pep Boys. Their website said they are open till 8PM, so I made an appointment for, 6.30PM, drove all the way to the store, arrived 15 min BEFORE my appointment. And guess what happened: "Sorry we are closed for today, please come tomorrow!". If you don't work at 6.20PM, why on Earth do you give me an appointment at 6.30PM? Anyways, the lesson I learnt: Avoid this shop, not a trustworthy business at all.

Beware of abusers

I had been going to the Pep Boys at 7655 Hillsborough, Tampa, FL, for at least a year, since it was near my house,and the CS was good. Recently, my car went down and my job path changed. I left my car with the store since last Oct, 2020, to be fixed. No word or calls on when it should be done. It is now May of 2021, and still no briefing on conditions. Never again will I return to this location without a demand order and legal proceedings. Beware!

I can only speak for the Pep Boys in Studio City, hence 4 stars instead of 5. I went to the Studio City Pep Boys in kind of a panic because I had a flat tire and was super busy.I should have checked the tires in reviews but I was too stressed. Later, when I did look, it turns out they should me a really good set of tires. So I am really grateful to those guys. They could have taken advantage but they didn't.

FRAUD--SCAMS FRESHMAN COLLEGE STUDENT HAD A BRAKE ISSUE WITH HIS VEHICLE. Took the vehicle to store#652 near CSULA. was asked to leave the vehicle. Later received phone call saying that the BRAKES needed to be REPLACED. (IT IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL TO REPLACE ALL FOUR SET OF BRAKES.) $ 820.00 cost. Student was told that he could make monthly payments, without interest. The brakes were replaced prior to determining that the student did not meet the criteria for the monthly payment offer. STORE ID. 0652 SERVICE WORK ORDER #2250361 Arthur Gutierrez, SERVICE MANAGER, REFUSED TO RELEASE THE VEHICLE TO THE STUDENT AND DEMANDED THAT THE STUDENT FIND SOMEONE TO PAY THE BALANCE. I was contacted by phone, I requested to speak with Art, he refused to give his name and title and left the phone. I drove from 92656 to 90022. when we approached the service bay. The service bays were being closed. the bay where the vehicle was had been closed. I requested the parts that were replaced, but was ignored. I stepped inside the service area and phoned LASO, ( LASO/ELA, INCIDENT #247 ) I rejected repeated request to step outside remaining there until LASO arrived. About ten minutes prior to the arrival of LASO, Art removed the parts that were replaced and placed them in the trunk of the vehicle. I had mentioned to Art that I was going to have those parts inspected and evaluated by three separate entities to determine if REPLACEMENT WAS REQUIRED. After LASO arrived and with the REPLACED PARTS in the VEHICLE I paid the $ 820.00. I suspect that a number of Corporate Polices and Procedures were violated during the SCAM/FRUAD OF THIS STUDENT. IF NO CORRECTIVE ACTION IS TAKEN, PEP BOYS IS COMPLAISANT WITH FRAUD---SCAMS.

Ordered the sending unit Pep Boys listed as being for our vehicle. Part wasn't even close to being right.Despite it being their mistake they refuse to take the part back brand new-never installed in the original box still in the original packaging. Horrible service and customer service is non-existent. Will NEVER buy there again.

Don't Go to Pep Boys

Here is my first and last experience with pep boys. I will say first that mostly I am my own mechanic,so I am not ignorant to car repairs. Also I am a former farmer so I have worked on several types of vehicles and machinery. Now on to my experience with pep boys. We were vacationing in Florida when our 2003 Pt Cruiser overheated at the Bradenton Florida exit. Found the car had blown coolant out and as we had coolant with us, I got the car cooled down while we looked for a repair shop open as it was Sunday November 1, 2020. Found a pep boys close and limped the car there. After checking the car the technician told us the head gasket was blown, which I did suspect as I could smell antifreeze from the exhaust. Was told the repair could be done by Friday the 6th and it would take app. 9 hours labor. We told them we had to leave for Illinois by Thursday and they said they could have it done by then. We waited until Tuesday morning to call and ask how it was going. They told us they would have it done by Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. We called Thursday and they told us it would be done at noon or a little after. We arrived at the shop about noon and here is where it all goes wrong. We sat and waited and nobody came to tell us anything. We had to keep hunting up the technician and were told 3 times that they were just putting on the “finishing touches” . Well the “finishing touches” took till 8:30 pm and they came and told us that the air conditioning would not recharge and they couldn't find the leak. The air conditioning was working perfectly when we dropped the car off, so they messed that up. I asked if the head gasket repair was done and they said yes. I told them they messed up the air conditioning and they ended up taking 300 off the bill as I told them I would fix it myself. We were upset with them by this time as the car was not done when they said, they messed up the air conditioning, and they ignored us in the shop, They did not keep us informed or seem to care that we we waiting that long. We paid the 1718.09 bill and left for Illinois. We got home and two days later my wife said there was a puddle under the car and found it was coolant. I smelled it coming from the exhaust again and the only way it gets into the exhaust is through a leaking head gasket or intake manifold gasket both of which would have been replaced in head gasket repair. Pep boys repair failed with only 1200 miles on the repair while I still owned the car at the time. Pep boys will only do warranty work at one of their locations and the nearest to me is 240 miles away in Chicago. Three reasons not doing this; Car not safe to drive to Chicago with leaking coolant, it would cost me to get it there and not going into the Covid Capitol of Illinois to get yet another pep boys “repair”. My local certified Chrysler auto dealer/ repair shop confirmed the head gasket was leaking. Upon contacting the store and e.mailing the findings we waited for a response. We called and they couldn't find our e.mail and 4 hours later told us they found it in the spam folder. Nice. Customer e.mails going to Spam folder. We were told by the manager that no refund would happen and they would like to help us but as I see it the only thing they helped with is to our money with a improper faulty repair. Contacted the Customer relations twice with this and they said it would be referred to the Area Director who we gave 6 days to respond and never heard anything. This is the worst auto repair experience I have ever had and I want my money back. DON”T go to pep boys. Michael and Lori Meador
