Reviewed on 2021-04-22T21:15:53

Promotion money not paid out as promised. Promotional interest was until March 31st and money was transfered out on April 9th.They had 9 days to pay the promotonial interest of 2.2 %. Simplii claims that the account was closed and they had nowhere to deposit the interest. I have 2 other accounts with them. I would argue that they had enough time to calculate the interest and add it to the funds prior to making the transfer and that not paying out the promotion, which is the bulk of interest earned, is nothing short of theft. I would not give them a single star if that was possible. Terrible customer care. I will be going to the CIBC ombudsman to file a complaint.

Hold the fund worth $3000 for a $500 etransfer comaplin, in which they want you to contact in where you do online transaction and no way to contact the complain. They should just hold the $500 for the amount of the complainant cost not $3000, which court order holding the funds for that long. It doesn’t seems right. You got free banking yes, but no protection as a customer . Very terrible experience loss lots of chance to invest the $3000 that could give you $500 or more profit in 3 weeks, who knows how long the process will take or is there really a process that will be done???, not worth to keep your money here.

We needed money out for a deposit on a home, Wow you would think that instead of me and my spouse,They had earned all that money and were trying to keep us away from it at all costs. After several hours on the phone my brother stepped in with a bank draft for our deposit and paid the realtor. We were left on the phone again arguing to stop the process. They wouldn’t even give us a proof that our deposit was underway. We are longtime clients over 20 years, not of us nearly had heart attacks dealing with simply financial!

Their process in dealing with a death…

Reviewed on 2021-04-09T16:17:20

Their process in dealing with a death of a spouse is diabolical! If the survivor has to deal with this bank, they best make sure they are made of strong stuff because this company is going to generate further grief and stress. My issue has been going over 4 months, I sent all the requested documentation along with a notarized death certificate & Will (out of all the companies I deal with this was the only one that requested I had to go and purchase these documents)! I avoided contacting them for a couple of months as I knew it would be hard work, given all the experience I had as a Personal Banking Rep in this situation. I waited until I got some strength and sent them all documents requested along with the forms for the joint accounts, letter of direction forms that they had sent after the initial phone call. I left it two months and I thought I had given them enough time to action it; "you know what thought did!" A manager contacted me about my late husband's RRSP I had to sign another form and return it. They eventually had the money transferred in March; however, I noticed that his other accounts had not been actioned. In the meantime, I received a letter from Simplii for my late husband, telling him he had a dormant account!! I contacted the manager, she apologized and said she would look into it. I received an email to tell me the money was in the account and if there is anything I need help to contact her. I emailed and asked where is the rest of the accounts, she had no idea about the other accounts?! Are you kidding me? She then informed me I had to sign more paperwork and that she could look at his chequing & savings and TFSA but, I would have to call MF! Now, forgive me if I am wrong but, logic tells me if your husband dies, you send all the appropriate paperwork, listing all the accounts and where they should go, it is someone's job to deal with that customer and sort out all the accounts of the estate. How did one account go to one department and the others to another...boggles my mind! What goes on in this Estates department? So, I contacted MF and was on hold for 60 mins, and eventually, I disconnected! I am getting beyond frustrated now. I email the manager again and ask her to have someone call me as I don't have any patience left, this is stressing me out beyond belief. She replies she will have someone call, she did, I missed it called back and was back on hold for 40 minutes, I ended up putting the phone down, I don't have time for this horror show. In the meantime, she emails again and tells me I have more documents to sign!!!! What goes on there, I mean where is the logic in all this, that customers have to go through this rigmarole on top of losing their loved one and trying to move on with life, its diabolical! I finally emailed the manager again on 19th March and explained I had called MF again and again was on hold. I asked her to please deal with all this as I cannot take anymore. I received no acknowledgment. I emailed again on 26th March, I asked to be put in touch with her manager or someone who can sort this out before I complain and write a review. I got a voicemail on 27th March from another manager called Alex, he said "you need to call National Estates" left the number and ended the call! No customer service, no apology, nothing just passed me on to someone else! I am beyond mad with them now, I reached out to a friend who is a Manager at CIBC to see if they could help me (CIBC owns Simplii). He tried but again it seemed to fall on deaf ears. 8th April received a phone call which I only wish you could hear... they advised me to call the estates line. Today 9th April I call the Estates and was told my wait time is 8 minutes, I put the phone down after 28 minutes! And now I am here! Dealing with this company has caused me so much stress and turmoil on top of what I am already going through and their lack of empathy and compassion is something to be ashamed of, I am now seeking legal advice in this matter and in the process of moving my money to another financial institution.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Reviewed on 2021-04-08T00:28:12

We paid out our mortgage on January 1, 2021. Our house was sold and the proceeds are being held IN TRUST until Simplii Financial provides the discharge papers. It is now April 7, 2021 and we have yet to receive the discharge documents from them. They blame Canada Post, but after the second time I blame them. They are totally unhelpful and act as though it is my fault that the documentation hasn't been received. Phoning and emailing is a waste of my time and they will not provide a person to escalate the issue to. They are happy to take our money and quick to tack on fees if we didn't make a payment, but they don't care about you or your finances.

Dishonest, Not trustworthy and steals your money unfairly

They phone you to tell you that you owe them money but they don't tell you that they are taking 50 bucks everyday out of your account for an nsf charge every second day up to five times.I went and paid the overdraft right away but was not notified of the 5 withdrawals. During Covid 19 who can afford 225.00 of charges I spoke with the a rep on the chat and see said she can only return two of the NSF. She gave me a 1800 number and I was on hold for over an hour and they guy said he can only do two as well. What nonsense. The rep. said I should be monitoring my account every five minutes. Poor customer service and I don't trust them. Please be careful especially if you are a busy person who thinks the overdraft covers your fees. I had withdrawals from PayPal that I was not aware of that bounced. Nobody informed me of anything. They just wait until your vulnerable and not looking and take your hard working money out of your account.
