While the software itself is quite good I have two negative things to mention:
1. In the classicsoftware you were able to overuse a budget category (lets say -100 on Electricity as you had to pay something in advance). And then the next month this was calculate together with your budget. (so for example -100 from the last month, budgeted 100 for this month and another 50 used in this month would lead to 50 budget). This is no longer the case in the new online version. The budget from last month is only used if it is a positive value. This does not work with the way I am budgeting.
2. It is simply to expensive. I'd say around 30-45$/year would be ok, but not 84$/year.

YNAB not interested in U.K. customers

This product is fine if you fit the pattern of user for which it’s designed. It’s pretty inflexible otherwise.As mentioned by another reviewer, their automatic bank sync service is very unreliable. I think the reason for this is that they do not use the modern Open Banking protocols which make the service work well. They have told me today that they have no intention of updating this. Their only interest is in North American systems so I am going elsewhere after having been with them for many years.

I've been with YNAB for a good 20 months now and it is a truly useful application.
While you *can* get very similar results with a spreadsheet,having the ability to readily sync between phone and browser regardless of where you are is a godsend.
As for the customer service, well, let me tell you a story... back when I first started, I use the 30-day free trial... and at the end of it I decided "YES! I want to pay for the subscription!"... only to realise that I didn't have the money for it... I hadn't budgeted for it! D'oh!
So, a quick glance through the helpd pages suggested that customer service was amazing, so, not expecting much, I dropped them an email... and they were more than happy to extend my free trial for a month! While it is just good business sense for them, not a lot of other companies would be quite so happy to give their product away for free any longer than they had to - even if it ultimately means giving it away for more later.
The customer service had me sorted out in a few hours - and offered me more than I had originally asked for to boot!
Since then I've had a few problems the app that they have sorted me out with - again, very quick email/messaging responses, and they walked me throug the problem step-by-step.
I couldn't ask for more: it honestly gets used every single day, and more than pays itself in terms of savings, and if I ever need to ask customer service anything, they are right there for me, and that is in addition to the forums community they have built around themselves!
While the subscription isn't neccesarily cheap, in my case, it more than pays for itself every year!

I've been a subscriber of YNAB for over 4 years and love their product. Learning to manage my money with their tool and guidelines has changed my life.The product has not always been perfect and there have been some bumps along the way, but I am still more than happy to subscribe and truly believe in the value it provides. If someone asked me "what is your favorite app or service subscription?", I would tell them YNAB without any hesitation.
Every interaction with customer service has been fantastic. They are kind and helpful, and when I send feature requests or suggestions it feels like they actually listen to me.

Have been a user of YNAB since 2016. I was initially put off by the subscription model since their previous stand-alone (YNAB 4)product was a once off purchase.
However I can not stress highly enough of this product and the support that comes with it. It has changed mine and my partner's life for the better as we have regained total control over our finances and actually achieving goals.
To get the most out of it, I cant stress enough on doing their free webinars that come with the subscription.
Unlike the poster below, I live outside the US so direct import is not an option. To be honest, I wouldn't activate it if I could. I would miss having the full awareness of our finances I have at present. A manual import isn't really much of an effort also.
It is an amazing product, but the caveat is you need to spend a good month getting used to the system and sticking with it. I have no affiliation with YNAB, except I have since gotten several friends and family onto using it also.
A fine company that delivers on what they say. Keep it up.

I’ve been with them for a couple of years now and direct imports regularly stop working and you won’t get any notification unless you go to the account page of the app/website.They then have no ability to tell you how much time it wasn’t importing transactions for or how many were missed.
I’ve talked to multiple people in support about this who have all just said that actually I should be manually adding transactions anyway so this is actually a good thing. They’re all convinced this is a feature and not a giant glaring bug in their system.
I’ve been hoping they might fix it but at this point I’ve given up. It’s a real shame, YNAB has everything I want from a budgeting app except that it doesn’t actually work!
I’ve also had many issues with their system stuffing up my credit card budgeting, regularly telling me that I haven’t budgeted enough/budgeted too much for my credit card despite the fact I just budget for every transaction and it’s meant to transfer that budget to the card payment category for you.
These issues combined ultimately mean that I can’t trust the budget/balances it’s presenting me with, which makes it utterly useless.
