I have recently switched to IB, so my overall rating doesn't mean much. The online educational material is very useful.
The APIs look promising.
My primary issue is the 2FA process, which could be improved. It appears I cannot use a Yubikey or other hardware device, and I seem to be stuck with SMS. Surely there can be better alternatives.read more

NOT USER FRIENDLY FOR EVEN EXPERIENCED TRADERS
Reviewed on 2021-05-19T02:58:26
For such a complex Professional site one would expect a more user friendly site. It's as if they have never asked a newcomer what they can improve, because their rates are so low that they either can't afford to change it or they figure you won't leave. Here's what I don't understand, they have to pay more for support staff, and the staff HAS TO LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS
OF WAITING FOR HOURS TO GET A RESPONSE.
Problem areas: TRANSFERING IN ACCOUNTS, WITHDRAWING MONEY OUT TO A BANK , CHANGING YOUR PASSWORD, FINDING MESSAGES TO YOU, ETC.read more

I really like the scope of Interactive Broker's services. I've now got the reach to trade any market in the world I want to.Something that few institutional brokers offer. This gives me the ability to trade where the best opportunities are.
Of course, it is a complicated platform to master, but I am slowly getting the hang of it all. Its also good to have a competent tech support to guide me if I run into problems.read more
IBKR platform needs to be more intuitive
Reviewed on 2021-05-18T19:35:20
First thank you for asking for input. There are so many shortcomings at IBKR.
First even though I am a RiA,I was signed up for Friends and Family but I did not know this. Then I was denied adding more clients as I was F and F only. So I asked how do I become recognized as an RiA. I was told the process. Part of the process asked for my CRD number but the screen did not say which CRD number they wanted, mine or the firms. Of course I entered the wrong one, so my application was denied. I resubmitted using the "correct" CRD number, and I was approved but no one told me I was approved. I had to call in to find out. Extremely poor communication!!!
2. Tried to buy Bershire Hathaway B shares for a client. Different platforms want to see BRK-B, or BRK.B. Trader Workstation only recognizes BRK B with a space. Wow, please teach your computer to recognize the different variations of the B shares. This is not rocket science.
3.Why do I need to use 2 programs? Trader Workstation and ww.interactivebrokers.com
to serve my clients? Other platforms only use one site.
4. Trader Workstation is anything but intuitive. Wow, an 8th grader should be able to look at the IBKR screen and see how to buy or sell a security. I can not tell you how many times I have had to call the call center just to remind me how to buy or sell. Trader Workstation is why I have rated IBKR one star. If Trader Workstation was not designed to be intuitive, it was designed for who or what purpose? Rapid fire trading? No I doubt that. Trader Workstation is the type of screen I would expect in the 1980s, not now.
5. Now being a little sarcastic, what I am most thankful for at IBKR is being able to trade on the Tel Aviv exchange. Who the !@#$% wants to trade there? Make your site intuitive! That is where you should be spending your money.
6. A bunch of my client want to own mutual funds. OK but it is very obtuse determining if I can buy a given fund on your site. IBKR really does not like clients who want to buy mutual funds, right?
As soon as I get more assets under management, I will be moving my clients elsewhere. But, best of luck to IBKR. You need it.read more
