Faulty boots and they claim 'wear and tear'

Reviewed on 2021-05-19T21:16:11

I was so pleased with my purchase of Shoe The Bear biker boots, which I bought from John Lewis.4 months later the stitching between the sole and boot has come apart - an obvious fault. I contacted John Lewis and they won't do anything as it was not within 30 days and when I objected they state it is 'wear and tear' which it is clearly not! I would have thought a pair of £140 boots would last longer than 4 months and neither Shoe The Bear or John Lewis will do anything to replace these boots. They have not even bothered replying to my last email!

I'd love to give them zero star if I could do. I ordered a pair of outdoor chairs from john Lewis but they only delivered one chair. They didn't even contact us to explain what happened. We needed to call them by waiting for a long time to ask them why only one chair has been delivered and they said it's now out of stock. It's unbelievable!! It's like you buy a pair of shoes and get only a shoe. It's been more than 2 weeks now and every single time we have to call them and wait for the customer service to check what's happening about this order. Is this acceptable?

I have never received anything but excellent service from John Lewis. Items promptly replaced if thereis any sort of problem which very rarely happens. Very courteous service and a good knowledge of their products. So pleased that their shops are now open again.

Think twice before dealing with John Lewis

Reviewed on 2021-05-19T11:10:28

Please think twice if buying from John Lewis!. I have an account for some years buying occasionally with JL and decided to buy an ipad Pro with the keyboard and apple pencil. In short.... John Lewis didn't process the order but "ring fenced" my money from the bank, holding up the order with some bizarre " John Lewis security check" for 4 days. No email or communication to keep me updated that the order was going through additional checks which I would have understood! I had to contact customer services to find out what was going 3 times and each time I was told it was out of their control or even blaming my bank for holding up the funds on one call. When I got fed up and wanted to cancel the order, I was told I couldn't until the security checks went through. Then a cancellation email arrived this morning, no apology...absolutely nothing. I will avoid John Lewis in future.

Unamused

Reviewed on 2021-05-19T09:47:44

Ordered a Beko dishwasher through JL. All fine with the delivery and installation but the Dishwasherwas not cleaning properly. Tried all the troubleshooting tips which didn't resolve the problem so filed through the guarantee as only been in place less than 30 days. Impossible to get through to customer service, was third in line for online chat for hours and when rang was redirected to WhatsApp. When raised through there took hours for someone to respond and then was immediately placed back in the queue as didn't respond straight away. Then took another day to hear back. Finally arranged for engineers to visit and check it out. Engineers visited and confirmed the fault but weren't empowered to do anything to resolve it. They said they would contact customer service who will be in contact to discuss a replacement and I would receive a call about this. No call received but over a day later I receive an email to advise the engineers misadvised me and I instead need to contact technical support (rather than doing so on my behalf). I contact the relevant department, again through WhatsApp, who agree the machine needs to be replaced but as its no longer in stock I agree to pay the extra for a more expensive machine. An installation is booked in for Saturday and no additional cost for installing or removing the machine incurred. The case is passed to another agent to take the additional payment who promptly calls me to do this but experiences technical issues when doing so. I'm told I'll be put back in the queue so another agent can try. I'm passed to another three agents who also fail to do this, including one who tells me someone will be in touch and then puts me back in the queue because I haven't responded after being advised to wait for them to contact me! I'm finally put through to the IT team who advise me it will be a few days before this will even be looked into and my installation won't happen until resolved. Given this was not my fault this is completely unacceptable so I seek to escalate this issue to a manager and through a formal written compliant. The agent blocks all my attempts to raise this formally indicating it already has been, but not in a way I have a written record of. They refuse to provide me with contact details of a compliants team or to move me to another agent or to a manager. I've been advised "the outcome of my complaint" is that I will need to await a resolution from IT and there is no complaints department. This is not remotely listening to my complaints with the customer service provided and regardless of whether the IT issue is resolved I am fed up with the service received. I have been given no written record of anything and been dealt with by an obtrusive agent so have no faith this has actually been raised I expect JL to promptly deal with the issue and compliant and offer formal compensation for this abmissal lack of customer service.

Three bad experiences recently.

Reviewed on 2021-05-18T21:00:08

Three bad experiences recently. 1. John Lewis agreed and then confirmed a delivery date twice for a pairs of sofas.I waited in half a day, then chased them to be told they weren't even made yet. Wasted a days holiday. 2. When purchasing the sofas they tried to sell me a credit card to buy it with, I was told the process would take 5 minutes, an hour later I decided just to buy the sofas outright as they couldn't process the application due to some sort of glitch. 3. I Bought a £300 dress for my wife and half the beads fell off during her brothers wedding which was pretty embarrassing for her, John Lewis refused to do anything about it despite all the photographic evidence we provided. I have to say that historically John Lewis has been top notch, but recently they've fallen off the wagon. I have been a loyal customer for many years buying all my electronic from them, however I won't be buying anything else unless something drastic changes.
