They begin by taking your payment information and providing you with an estimated cost based on your insurance. My estimated cost before my first session was $75 with in network insurance. After three sessions I kept getting emails from Headway regarding corrections in billing, and now I am being retroactively charged for a per session cost of $142. And of course, there is no telephone number or email address, just dumb virtual assistance to help you.
Allegedly selling information
I found this platform through the provider search through my insurance. It was the first and only place I reached out to regarding my need for therapy. I scheduled my appointment, the provider never called me. Without my consent I was scheduled again for the same day a few hours later, that call never happened either. I contacted support and they couldn't answer any questions, whether this was done by headway or by the provider. Then after support couldn't help me, I got an email asking to rate my appointment... Starting the next morning at 6:30 am I started getting phone calls from "therapists" from across the country SAYING that they found me from headway, but when I google their phone numbers or names or practices they don't exist!!! Headway claims to not sell your information so this is just a crazy coincidence? Had to contact support to delete my account that I only had for THREE DAYS because I'm getting spam calls that say they are from Headway. My emergency contact is getting the same calls. Be wary of giving this company your information.
This company has charged me hundreds of…
This company has charged me hundreds of dollars and continues to even though I have canceled my cards and done everything. They’ve asked somebody has utilized my bank account information to bill me on an account here this company has refused to help me. I am at a loss hundreds of dollars continues to be spent every single time they just told me to cancel my card every single time I tell them it’s because somebody has my bank account and every single time it goes back to the same thing.
My therapist using Headway for billing
My therapist using Headway for billing, it is horrible! You can not speak to a live person, you have to talk through email. They charge me a fee on my HSA card, however did not submit to my insurance company. Yes my deductible was not met and I know there is a charge. But all appointments should be submitted through insurance then a bill should be released. They refuse to work with me on this, they refuse talk on phone. Check you statements for HSA they double charge and I finally got a refund. Therapist be aware of this company, worthless!
My provider is great or I'd bail - headway is awful.
My provider is great or I'd bail. The patient portal is awful. 1) It consistently tells me my provider is not covered under my insurance when they are - and headway bills my insurance so they know that. 2) My appointments randomly disappear. Not canceled - I get text messages and emails when that happens. Just vanish. 3) The scheduling function says (in several places) it is scheduling in one time zone but actually schedules in a different time zone so my appointments wind up being at different times than intended. 4) They explained number 3 away by telling me that the scheduling function is only meant for the first appointment and I shouldn't schedule follow up appointments with it and send me documentation as evidence ... except a) it's right there in the actual patient portal that I log into to see my appointments, billing etc and it lets me use it and 2) what therapy platform in 2026 doesn't have a scheduling feature? Headway provides a poor patient experience.
Unacceptable Provider No-Shows and Improper Billing
I had a deeply disappointing experience with Headway that I feel obligated to warn others about. I was referred to Headway by my doctor to find a therapist for medical clearance related to surgery. The provider assigned to me missed multiple appointments and created serious scheduling issues that delayed my care. • The first scheduled consultation was completely missed by the provider with no notice. • The second appointment was scheduled for 10:00 PM, but the provider attempted to conduct it at 10:00 AM instead. • The final appointment on January 5th at 10:00 AM was also missed. I was present and waiting in the virtual session, messaged the provider that day, and received no response. The provider later canceled the appointment. • Despite the provider’s no-show, I was charged $100. I took time off work specifically for these appointments. Being billed for a provider’s failure to attend is unacceptable. What’s worse is that Headway has not been helpful in resolving the issue. If you are seeking care that is time-sensitive or medically necessary, proceed with caution. This experience caused unnecessary stress, delays, and financial burden.
As a therapist in practice
As a therapist in practice, not associated with Headway in any way, I noticed that I was billed by them last week. I had downloaded a free pdf from them 17 months ago. Because, they do not have live support in any form, I am not able to quickly rectify this situation. I have emailed them, to no avail. Because I do not have an account with them, I am not able to easily contact them via email through an account. As I provider, I would not recommend them to anyone because of the difficulties in getting in touch with them and also because I have absolutely no idea why and what I was billed for.
